LOVETA Wilson, otherwise called ‘Cherry’, of Old Bucksfield, Ocho Rios, St Ann was yesterday stabbed to death, allegedly by Ian Lloyd of Pineapple district in the parish.
Lloyd, also known as ‘Ching Sing’, also allegedly attacked the police after killing Wilson and was fatally shot.
The incident unfolded about 1:30 pm. Wilson was reportedly at her home when Lloyd went there. He then attacked and stabbed her several times with a knife. Lloyd also attacked residents who came to Wilson’s aid. The police were alerted and during the process of trying to apprehend him, they too were injured by stones and bottles which Lloyd hurled at them. Four of the lawmen were injured.
The Ocho Rios Police are investigating. -

Well if nothing comes of it after the SOBs are caught on camera murdering a citizen, yes one allegedly also guilty of murder, then we may as well pack it up and call it a day. This is not about the murdered man's guilt or innocence. The police can only enforce the law if they themselves abide by it. No doubt it is situations like this that result in the death of innocent people like Keith Clarke and many other people who find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time or who happen to look the part or fit a certain profile. Thanks to the citizen activist who filmed it and made the video available.

The commissioner of police on the face of it is saying the right thing...but what else would we expect.
Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington has ordered the immediate arrest of the policemen involved in the incident. Ellington also instructed that stop orders be placed on the policemen involved at all ports of entry.

i have no pity for this guy if he did indeed kill the woman...
but at least his death won't be in vain if it exposes the jamaican police and by extension- government;
corrupt and rotten to the core;
the climate of killing & lawlessness in j-a tone is set from the top on downComment

Well he did 'attack' the cop who had already drawn his gun with a stone. Hence the police report about how when they tried to apprehend the suspect they were met with rocks and stones.
It is not really funny but it just highlights how these police reports are really suspect. The fact that the policeman did what he did in full view of onlookers means that the police force is screwed up to the core and anything goes. I wait to see what if anything comes of it.

These are the type of actions by murdering trigger happy policemen why the group jamaicans for justice (JFJ) is important.
Despite this mans crime he should be put before the justice system,not executed by the police,this kind of thing should not be allowed in a so-called civilised society.Comment

I have never said they were not needed. But I do question some of the pronouncements they have made and some of the instances when they chose to remain silent like when gunmen go on a shooting rampage.Comment

To me, this is further than just cop kills defenseless man. This is a lack of training, no evidence of procedure, and worst of all, the 'law' seemed to be carrying out the wishes of the mob.
Points to support my position:
1. The background taunts of "kill im", "light im up", etc
2. The writhing man on the ground with the policemen at leisure beating him with a baton - we dont use handcuffs?
3. The victim was already killed, why is this man still on the ground, and not on his way to jail?
This is worse than murder one - this is institutional incompetence.
Now, it seems that the top brass has suddenly noticed the problem, and have ordered the arrest of the three (http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/...-video-killing). I wonder if the charges are "getting caught pulling the trigger".Comment

In response to this I would say that in instances where gunmen do go on a shooting rampage the JFJ is not obliged to comment on such cases,it is the job of the police to apprehend and bring into custody such criminals.
What the JFJ is concerned about is the type of actions by the police we see depicted in the video,currently the police are responsible for carrying out their own investigations into such cases,there exists no independent bodies to investigate suspected murders by the police.
The police in jamaica murders suspects with impunity,they carry out their own form of justice and decides who is to be murdered and who stands trial,far too many rogue cops in the force,I appreciate they have a pretty tough job dealing with ruthless killers,but the due process of law should be adhered to otherwise there is a total breakdown,which is currently what we are seeing,...the police murders with impunity,so the criminals think that is the way to do things.Comment
