It's funny! but in a strange twist, I'm not sure that Thornton is really a common thief that the company has made him out to be...They may have caught him on tape taking beer allegedly stolen from the company, but it may have been done in defiance to what he perceived to be injustice and bigotry against him within the company, which doesn't make it right.... From what I've read, he didn't drink and there is no evidence he sold it to Christy, the woman arrested and charged with larceny in connection with "his theft"... He could have been acting out a "Robbin Hood" type scenario to someone he thought to be in need.. Are there others? they did not say..

Racism can be passive or overt and whichever way it's applied can be harmful destructive, and self defeating.. Because of it's institutional nature, it has morphed into so many ways of administering it, that at times it becomes invisible to those who are not accutely aware of it or savvy to its effect... Thornton was aware of it, experienced it, took as much as he could take and unfortunately did it "his way"... <span style="font-weight: bold">Blacks complaining about "racism" in the workplace is for "fools" . Studies have shown that most folks who are indeed "racist", do not think of themselves "as such" but when put to the test, the results show otherwise.</span>..

If you noticed, I was not talking about "lodging a formal complaint". To be specific, I meant the complaints made in the workplace, on the job to co-workers black or white... I will hasten to add that co-workers include supervisors and immediate bosses who in large companies are not members of the "management/owners... <span style="font-weight: bold">Speaking out about it, does not endears the complainer to his co-workers or mgt...</span> Speaking of "formal complaints," conjours up the belief that "high" company officials or some Govt agency may become involved in the matter...

The way I see it, "formal complaint" does not neccessarily mean that the complainer will be assessed and judged fairly. Racists can be found at all levels including those who will decide whether or not you are discriminated against... <span style="font-weight: bold">When a member of a minority complains, formal or not, a red flag goes up, the whites will think of you as a trouble maker, a destructive force and they will re-act in any number of ways in accordance with "group think" or as individuals...</span>

Blakkie, when the above was written, it's obvious that the well overused term of someone "having a history" of whatever they imagined it to be was used. The History of the perpetrators is completely overlooked, forgotten and never mentioned... Their History of "racism" towards the victims that caused the <span style="font-weight: bold">racial problems</span> in the first case is lost in the shuffle... To racists, they are prone to see only the side of any problem that suits them, the other side(s) are usually dismissed... Who can forget the All white Juries of the past convicting <span style="font-weight: bold">innocent black men</span> of murder? There is a History of those "racial problems" to contend with...

Even if the Management receive complaints none going to admit it. They don't want to lose their jobs and neither do they want the company to come across has being racist. The company image has to be protected and this is what important to them. But what the Black Community need to do is withdraw from purchasing this company products and insist that the company employee more blacks if they are truly not racists.

They all want Mr. Thornton to be some one of ill repute in the eyes of the public while their company is smooth and shiny. It is time persons wake up and now that racism is not dead because it is hatred and HATRED is still alive and well as long as this world is still standing.

It is a pity that this man didn't know that LOVE heals the hurt that the devil throws out.

The man who fatally shot eight co-workers at a Connecticut beer distributor stole cases of beer and empty kegs worth more than $400, according to court records.

An affidavit obtained Thursday by The Associated Press said Omar Thornton, a truck driver at Hartford Distributors Inc. in Manchester, handed off two empty kegs in exchange for undisclosed compensation in July. A week later, he gave away five cases of beer.

Police arrested Christy Quail, 33, of Enfield, on larceny charges three days after Thornton killed his co-workers, wounded two others and took his own life on Aug. 3. He had just been shown video evidence of him stealing beer and was asked to resign.

Quail, who police said is the wife of a former Hartford Distributors employee who knew Thornton, did not immediately return a call for comment Thursday. Her husband has not been charged.

According to court records, managers at the beer distributor received a tip that Thornton stole beer from his truck. The company hired Aegis International, a private investigation company to follow through.

Video recordings provided by Aegis show Thornton driving his truck to an East Windsor strip mall at the end of his shift on July 16, meeting a man and woman and taking two kegs from his truck and placing them in the trunk of their car, the affidavit said. It also said the man "hands Thornton something and is heard saying 'thank you very much,'" after receiving the items.

The investigators followed the car to Quail's home, according to the affidavit, which was first obtained by The Journal Inquirer of Manchester.

A week later, investigators observed Thornton driving to the same strip mall and loading five cases of 30-pack beers into the trunk of a car driven by a woman.

Quail is identified as the woman in the July 23 incident, the affidavit said.

Police said they questioned Quail and her husband, Sean, about the thefts on Aug. 3 and both denied being involved. Police also said Quail claimed to have never met Thornton.

Quail is free on bond and is scheduled to appear in Enfield Superior Court on Aug. 17.

The company reopened its offices and warehouse on Wednesday. Workers observed a moment of silence in the parking lot and company President Ross Hollander offered words of encouragement to employees.

John Mastropietro, chairman of the state Workers Compensation Commission, said Thursday that information about how to seek workers compensation was sent a day earlier to the two survivors and relatives of the eight workers killed in the rampage.

Compensation would be 75 percent of a worker's average income over a year after reductions for Social Security and income taxes. Spouses of those killed on the job receive lifetime compensation or until they remarry. Children receive compensation until they're 18 or older if they're in college.

He said the payments made by the insurer for Hartford Distributors could be the largest since a former accountant at the Connecticut Lottery Corp. fatally shot four executives and himself in 1998, but he had no specifics.

"It's going to be fairly large," Mastropietro said.

Workers compensation generally precludes liability lawsuits unless "wanton and willful negligence" by the employer can be proven, he said.
