Whatever the reason[s] for crime, we for hell sure cannot blame the "white man" for selling us guns; for in the final analysis it is a matter of who pulled the trigger.

It's very sad to hear of this unfortunate incidence taking the life of someone who could have made a difference if only he had the chance. This refrain has been played so many times all across the N.American continent...

In reference to the above, I agree with the sentiments and objectives of all that is said.. However, when we pause, look back and analyse, we have to ask ourselves the question; <span style="font-weight: bold">Why after so many years with so many black leaders in the various black communities across America, there seems to be little or no progress made when it comes to "black" teen crime and violence against each other?</span>

Faithful has put her finger on part of the problem, noting that who is left of the "old guard" can't do it alone. Many older adult men are more pre-occupied with their families and career and IMO, the younger "would be leaders" are not prepared to join forces with others to take up the cause for reasons known only to them ; we can only surmise... It's my "take" that there is a convergence of circumstances that creates the situation that causes our youths to become "macho" young men, developing into self haters and killers of their own kind..

the jews over there have their own patrol groups and they get special protection from the police as well;
also they have not been subjected to the constant societal & media stimuli convincing them that they are expected to act, talk, think & behave in a certain way the way black youth are...
in other words they have not been subjected to the same type of brainwashing & their men are not incarcerated/ criminalized in massive numbers thereby undermining the male presence in the family structure...also most of them have some type of knowledge of their history and where they are coming from...where as black youth are taught whatever history & philosophy the public schools mandate...
most of the jews out there have their own private or religious schools as well where they make sure they are educated in a way beneficial for the development of their own people...

Because "I aim to please" I'll attempt to provide an answer which in no way will provide <span style="font-style: italic">the missing piece of the puzzle</span>...It's just for starters which will be paving the way for the heavyhitters with all the good answers..~

Anyhow, to be serious, <span style="font-weight: bold">I believe that our black leadersip have aged, moved on to" seniors" homes and many must have died. Unfortunately, the firebrands of the 60's & "70's were never replaced by younger ones..</span>

BRAVO !! there it is.. you and others of course will view those questions as rhetorical, but at the same time many I'm sure were not in tune with the reasons that you cited...

While all that is true, the bottom line is, since the days of the Civil Rights Movement; blacks in America have made great strides, MATERIALLY but we are still lagging in many areas in terms of our PURPOSE as a group [in a nutshell]

Many of us believe that because we now have access to more material things like real estate, cash, cars and even education we can now abandon the efforts to not only maintain them, but to strive ahead.

As a result, many have lost SELF-RESPECT, SELF-ESTEEM, respect for each other, total neglect of their family and other core values that served as the glue to hold us together in a racist environment...so what happens?

WE LOST RESPECT AMONG EVERYONE....<span style="font-weight: bold">even minorities from other underdeveloped nations come and tek libattie with blacks in America</span> for they perceive that we ARE NOT SERIOUS especially since we have not held it together even among ourselves...etc etc....it doesn't get uglier than this...ppl who benefited from the Civil Rights struggle are NOW kicking us in the teeth.

The other kwestian is, what do we need to DO to revitalise our awareness and at least earn....ERR REGAIN respect among ourselves, and thereby put a stoppage to our seemingly, continual downward spiral and save more lives in the interim?

....if we stopped buying all that bling and garbage that other minority groups are selling us [laawd mi haffie menshan even di false hair] hundred dallahs sneakers, wash hovah gold; 3 an 4 cell phones :: and other trinkets/ garbage, to the tune of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS yearly, [money taken from our neighborhoods, while they laff "pity the fools"] we could have more than our own patrol and ambulance....

We have more than enough black millionaires and non-millionaires :: who could step up to the plate and contribute seriously to worthy causes to help us...[even these BLACK mega churches that collect from over ten thousand on any Sunday]...so MONEY shouldn't be the chief factor....if anything I believe it is because<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 20pt">

NOBODY takes us seriously, not even we, ourselves....so they see us as a target, regardless of the laws on the books.

I tend to agree with what you posted here B; but all that is in addition to the fact that as I mentioned in the other post, we now LACK A GOAL, AN AIM, A PURPOSE...it is no longer clear what these are it SEEMS,<span style="font-weight: bold"> and this is open to debate, anyone can disagree...</span>

The fact that there are Civil Rights laws on the books doesn't mean that the effort should die.....we have more black politicians than before now..outside of Africa, but we haven't heard *peep* from most of them...as if they surface only when it is election time....they seem afraid to challenge the shystem unlike their predecessors.

...another reason I believe is the ILLITERACY RATE among Americans in general, including blacks...nobody is reading anymore....they are busy tweeting and talking on the phone and playing video games, so all the old philosophical/math/science texts [as examples] that challenge our brains to help to decipher our purpose in life as a specie; and how to basically know if others are fooling us, like in the recent real estate/economic meltdown among the HAVES/have-nots; or if others are WITH US can work with us, etc gather dust on the shelves, or get thrown away..

There is too much distraction, so there is no time/need to read, instant gratification takes over from working toward a goal and having a plan and sticking to it...it is too painful and stressful, so MOST ppl tend to take the easy way out; mind their own business; and hope that someone else will carry the torch

...and of course, among the heartless settle scores with the knife or the gun..

.....with the spate of murders across the nation, among all ethnicity, nobody is willing to stick his/her neck out to have it severed...of course it is NOT this simple, there is more than meets the eye..for if we knew we wouldn't be in this predicament.

...as it seems now, the mantra <span style="font-style: italic">"cowad man mip soun bone</span>" seem to be in vogue...and we are back to square one...how do we regain that brotherly love that is missing in many of our interactions?

All your points are valid ones. If they are to be debated, they would have to be on the basis of "not what needs to be done but on HOW should they be done or accomplished"? Your take on black politicians is in sync with popular opinion, so much so that they are not relevant to the "black" cause; they are for the most part, very status quo as you aluded to...

Society has changed a lot since we had real leaders...mainly due to the avalanche of all manner of technologies being directed at one and all...with children and young people as the targetted groups... As you stated, people just dont read anymore, the TV, DVR, and all the other toys such X-Boxes, etc for kids and grown men have diverted their attention away from books and reading.. Social Media has taken over normal communication which many older and the not too old are not embracing.. All this has brought both good and bad depending on the discipline and constraints put on them.

I dont know what lies ahead for us black people as a group, but "things" are not moving as I thought they would, given the promise that the 21st Century was supposed to hold especdially for the young folks of whatever ethnicity in this society. Our concerns will naturally be for our young youths who lack proper role models, a sense of worth and direction in order to attain their goals...Take BET our most watched by "blacks" TV network, yet for youths, there is next to nothing "educational" to uplift the hordes of the young mis-directed ones who need a little attention... All they seem to get is<span style="font-weight: bold"> dance, dance dance. video, video video</span>... Once or twice a week, an hour programe to our youths about schooling, studies, career options and general guidance on matters pertinent to them would help..
