Given the enormity of the universe, it is far more likely that other life would have or will evolve on another planet with the right conditions. Simple mathematical odds point this way. That said, given that same enormity of space and the billions of years the universe has existed the odds of life evolving anywhere near us in space or time is very, very ,very small and having visitors that are so advanced that they can get here with the frequency claimed by those who believe in alien visitors and not have them make contact is just not reasonable.

The concept of God is based on faith, legend, myth and is no way provable scientifically.

Still, I'd say that visiting E.T.s are a far more likely event than is a visit from God or the return of Jesus.

Astronomers and other scientists can scan far off stars and planets with spectroscopes that tell them what elements are present on those bodies. Other instruments can determine the temperature ranges That tells them if the elements necessary for carbon based life as we know it exist there.

While size does matter in some other things that occasionally involve seeing stars, the size of a planet has no bearing on whether or not life can exist there.

Again, there are enormous amounts of both space and time which almost certainly prevent the establishment of intelligent life anywhere near us and capable of reaching us in the relatively short time mankind has existed and the even shorter period of time in which any sort of civilization could have been spotted by a visiting starship.

IMO you and others may well be correct in thinking that intelligent , technologically advanced life exists or has existed somewhere in the universe but to think that they have been visiting yet left not a cigarette butt for evidence of those hundreds of visits claimed by believers nor stopped by for an interstellar chat just does not seem reasonable on its face.

True they may well have beamed up Black Giant and probed the bejeezus out of HIM resulting in his fixation on &quot;funnee peeps&quot; both terrestrial and extraterrestrial but he won't admit any of that.

The conference was just held on September 27, 2010. Several retired military officers formerly involved with nuclear missiles and storage facilities, testify that UFOs shut down their operations, while hovering above their facilities.

We are conscious here because we are conscious and this is where WE are.
That does not negate the possibility that consciousness exists elsewhere in the universe.

In our day-today lives we all tend to not think of ourselves and our sand speck of a planet as the very small part of the universe that we are and so we all become the center of the universe in our minds.
Stepping back from that and considering that time and space, for all intents and purposes, are endless I think everyone is capable of getting some understanding of just how small and inconsequential we all are and just how small and inconsequential our solar system and galaxy are in the big picture.

The big hue and cry over UFOs really started percolating during the Cold War when secret plots were widespread and everyone feared nuclear destruction. The movies like Godzilla and all the aliens-coming-to-kill-us movies were extensions of that fear.

As said, if any UFO's were extraterrestrial visitors it is passing strange that they never left ANY concrete physical evidence of any of the many visits reported nor did they make contact with the leaders or more likely the academics of the planet to exchange knowledge.

There is no doubt that life of any sort is rare in the universe since most stars (suns) and planets are too cold, too hot have too high a gravity field, no atmosphere that would sustain life and a myriad of other hostile conditions that would preclude establishment of life.
Even scarcer yet would be intelligent, technologically advanced life.

Any race intelligent enough to get themselves here across vast interstellar space and finding intelligent life (albeit far inferior to what they necessarily possess in order to get here) would almost certainly make contact given that scarcity of life in the universe.
It's what an intelligent race would do.

This business of abducting/probing/traumatizing humans and making mad dash runs through our atmosphere that they would certainly know we could observe would be totally unlikely behavior for an intelligent race.

Forget that Star Trek nonsense about non-interference.

When we finally head out for the stars we will eagerly seek out life in the universe and we will make all attempts to make contact with that life. The normal practice, as it is now will be to be careful and to avoid problems That will all be worked out when that time comes and as the situations warrant.

Any other advanced race capable of interstellar travel would have already done so .

That's ok. I think you misunderstood me from the beginning because of semantics - my fault. I didn't mean that we were the only conscious beings; I was only speculating that we could be the most conscious or mentally advanced beings. Well now we don't know that for sure do we ?


We can always go to conspiracy theory and think that the aliens are amongst us/controlling us etc but in the absence of empiric evidence of their presence, alien visitors are in the same arena as God although far more likely to make an appearance IMO.
This conspiracy way of thinking is how many of us humans at this point in time in our development are thinking in the absence of any proof of their existence.
Not an intelligent way to go.

I thought what I was doing was saying that this business of secret colonies of aliens on Earth, drive-by visits without stopping in to chat are human concepts and that any intelligent life would more than likely seek out other intelligent life since that's what they would be out there looking for.
This is also human thinking but it seems more logical to me than the paranoiac thinking about hostile aliens.
A brief look into all the societies, clubs and organizations devoted to UFOs as alien visitors in the absence of any proof at all speaks to the lack of intelligent thought on the part of our societies on the subject.

We tend to deal with UFOs as if all the movies and crazy stories are a solid base upon which to base our thinking on the subject.


It goes back to anything is possible but very little of what is out there is based on science but rather on superstitions, human fears and/or hopes and this talk of alien visitors is just that.

I’m not sure how we got to conspiracy theories here jc. I am merely suggesting that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I also have no particular conspiracy theories to share in regards to UFOs.

First of all, I never used the phrase &quot;hostile aliens&quot;. I'm not sure why this characterization is necessary unless, of course, it is supposed to place those who are interested in this subject on the defensive and to seem paranoiac by placing words in their mouths. I also am not sure why being curious about a subject about which we know very little and having an open mind rather than certitude translates into paranoia.

It depends on to whom you look for work on this subject. Do you, for example, feel that Carl Sagan is “crazy” or that the work of the SETI Institute is “unintelligent” ?
