Well our elections yesterday got rid of the corporate wannabe that was our last mayor.... nothing but pure scandal from the beginning 4 years ago! For all the various cultural organizations and activities /events presented here in the past four years... that mayor never accepted invitations to attend any involving any black community. His deputies attended -scratch that... 'some' of his deputies attended... there is still one re-elected to council and she is as big a racist as he was, just around a little longer.


The new mayor has a reputation/history for his eager and committed involvement and support of multicultural groups, and organizations /events involving ALL the diasporas represented.

that's all that's left now, really hope - and faith for the religious. what did he say during the campaign when people asked how he was going to deliver his platform - &quot;Trust me&quot;....???

forget transit improvements, folks like me stuck on the outer edges of toronto will continue to suffer commutes of longer than an hour to get to work downtown.

everybody love to hear bout the cutting of taxes, let's see how he manages to grow this city with the reduction in revenue. i suppose he thinks his harebrained plan of cutting the size of council in half will get some savings. but let's see how representation and democracy survive, and what the true costs to torontonians will be.

at a time when toronto needs a person with vision to pull us out of the slump of the miller years, we've elected an office manager, and a buffoon to boot. \o/

but its really difficult to make that agrument when you talking about Gay-centric Toronto.
further to that, proclaiming that &quot;Jamaicans didnt want to vote for the Gay candidate&quot; can be considered belittling to a population of educated open-minded people who have been wrongfully accused by North American propoganda that we are somehow GENETICALLY an homophobic society.. a guess Jamaicans are genietically stupid to vote on issues..

Over 800,000 people voted and Ford captured almost 50% of the votes (Slitherman 35%).. If every Jamaican in Toronto voted for Slitherman, he still would have lost and Ford still would have won.

it's not people from the outlying areasd only who suffer. can i tell you the amount of times the subways break down and we get booted to wait for a shuffle bus with 2,000 other people at an intersection?

that's why i walk home. one way fair.

as plexxed said, too, smitherman could not overcome ehealth.

the question in my mind was - which one of the candidates would do the least harm while trying to build a better toronto? ford to me was the least qualified to do this.

today two people at work were singing the praises of chicago as a city. they mentioned its beauty, its accessibility, the diversity and availability of the arts, including the architecture and great number of public artworks.

the discussion talked about how at one time t<span style="font-weight: bold">oronto and chicago</span> were seen as very similar, but how now, chicago has accelerated in so many ways and toronto is left eating its dust.

what are our prospects for growth now with an elected mayor who ran on a platform that is a euphemism for regression?

having worked for toronto transit, and experiencing the inadequacies first-hand, the person who would have most likely received my support would have subway expansion in their political bulleye.. (particularly expanding the Sheppard line to the East AND the West.. ).
Such an expansion would result in great gains, not only for Toronto, but for Mississauga ,Brampton/Malton and possibly even Oakville (to name a few)
Imagine a subway link from say Wilson or Yorkdale station to Square One with stops inbetween. One stop at the Airport (finally!) at say Airport RD and 409, and then one line going North along Airport Rd towards say Steels or even further north to Bovaird and the next continuing West to Square One in sauga...

Seems like a big project, but someone gotta start it, and it seems Ford the one most likely to start such a project..

Yeah, I know, &quot;where's the money to do so, and how will that impact taxes..'
That part i'd leave to the people with the big brains..

It amazes me when after an exercise of &quot;Democracy&quot; played out as it ought to be, how some are more than very disappointed with the result of that exercise...
There is a reason why the People, most of them from the suburban areas of the greater city voted for this person regardless of what some may think of him.. He resonated with their dissatisfaction with the bunch who brought them the Garbage strike which the Union got everything they wanted and then raised taxes not only to cover the cost but to have money to &quot;splurge&quot; on matters not beneficial to the taxpayers... He is likened to a former mayor of Calgary, Ralph Klein who had a &quot;no-nonsense&quot; approach to solving problems... It's left to be seen if he will be as successful, but I doubt it...
