Well for a smaddy who isnt new to Wegmans here is the review...

In general produce in Wegmans is more expensive. all of our big chain grocers have signed agreements to to buy local. The Wegmans that I shop in isnt local. In general, grocery products (stuff on the shelf), Wegmans is much cheaper than Giants, Safeway...they are on par with Shoppers. Wegmans, bakery has a wider selection that Giants and Shoppers. They are on par with Safeway. Wegmans has an edge...because they allow you to taste and sample prior to your buying.

Wegmans meat, deli, fishery is on par with Giants. Safeway, Shoppers...sorry but dem naw mek it again. That is if you are comparing freshness and quality. If you a do 20 pack of grade B pork chops, 50 pack of chicken wings... then all of them is about equal.

Wegmans is a kit store...they are known for moving products (their brand especially) by cooking it in the store and then letting you taste it. Then telling you what ingredients you need to reproduce it at home. When you try it, notice that it will <span style="text-decoration: underline">never</span> be more than 3 ingredients/things to buy &lt;---this practice is a very large portion of their business.

Wegmans is also known for service..they dont mind letting you have free things or giving you things, if they know it'll bring you back. Now I have no idea how that is going to work ova there either. The Wegmans were I shop, if I cant find what I want....I simply tell the grocer what I am looking for and they really do go and get it (order it or whatever) and I do not have to promise to buy a dozen or whatever.

Wegmans does what the neighbourhood will dictate and pay for...minus the customer service (again, what they are known for). So if the population tells them to sell fried chicken they will sell it, the neighbourhood says kilbasa they push that....you get the drifts? I dont buy my ackee and Grace products from the Wegmans where I go (they have it, but better prices are to be found in the Giants closer to me).

Funny thing is...during the winter months when I am jonesing for fresh fish...I will get into the car and drive to the Wegman off of 95 in VA... I can guarantee a lovely lunch cooked by a chef (they have a menu restaurant inside right in the middle of the meat, poultry, seafood section) of fish. I find out how he prepared what I've eaten..I buy the ingredients, stop in the winery (that one is ...it takes up the entire bottom floor), checkout and then drive home.

Now why mi mention the fishery in Wegmans? Every smaddy round here know that Northern VA is home to a VERY,VERY large Asian pop. So when you want fresh fish all day every day...you will find it where they are. Wegmans catered to them.

Anyhew...my sister said she has stopped at the new Wegmans and she says it is nice. Ascarding to her, she says the store is smaller than other Wegmans' she has seen. However the convenience center (the place weh dem cooking, sampling, kit prep etc) is huge and very, very nice. She said she was impressed with the international section, which makes sense fi over there. Oonu too close to Tak Park fi not have proper competition.

Now mi know where mi can go to get things when mi need it instead of mi batta-batta miself go into Tak. Park Mi will wait to the habaloo die dung as well.

Wendy--when I was in Washington State I notice Fred Meyer stores were big. We have a Store like it here called Real Canadian Supertore.
however most people here usually end up going too Chinese run supermarkets like Shung Tai and theres a new one called Skyland at Markham and Lawrence--just opened and there was a line up in the parking lot

I remember when in the Markham and Lawrence area there was only Harrys (tiefin Harry) --now theres Danfoth Market, some other chinese run market.

one day Lorna saw one of the chinaman spit on the floor in the chicken isle at one of the chinese markets.
what i cant figure out is why west indians support them

used to be you had to go to Kensington Market /(jew town--thats what it called in Toronto and i got in crap by members here--but thats what it called here)
if you wanted jamaican provisions you had to hop up early saturday and take the train to the Market and go places like Yvonnes then came along Niceys.
they used to give away the cowfoot or tripe or chicken foot cuz nobody wanted that stuff

Mi did have a get together Satiday and wan a mi fren carry some outta towners over dere. Sinting a come in like tourist attraction now to reetid. A nearly 1 hour dem missing fah an di store is 10 minutes fram di house.

An yes you are right about Wegmans does what the neighborhood will dictate.
