What is Dr Gomes from Jamaicans for justice implying when she made the following statement and is she correct or did she get it wrong ?

I understand her to mean that human rights should be for all,not just for those with good hair,or the upper classes,etc etc.

In the light of some 0f the injustices meted out to people from poorer sections of jamaica she has got a point,the massacre of tivoli would not have happened in some of the wealthier suburbs of kingston,or mobay.

I agree with most of what you said .let me just add this, living in the suburbs with &quot;bad hair&quot; is still fraught with danger as shown in the case of Keith Clarke who was gunned down by agents of the state during the search for dudus. Keith Clarke could be considered from the upper class .He was a successful accountant, had a brother that was a well connected former government minister, yet the agents of the state deprived him of his human rights.

The pressing question is, if Keith Clarke had &quot;good hair&quot; ( European or Asian hair)would the actions of the security forces be any different. Based on the historical records the outcome of this encounter would be vastly different in favor of Mr. Clarke, he would be alive today.

A search that went horribly wrong



AS a boy, Keith Clarke often boasted to his friends that he got the perfect initials that would allow him to function like a king at his high school of choice.

His dream came true in 1959 when he was successful in entering Kingston College in second form and realise a dream that the real KC (Keith Clarke) had gone to the only true KC (Kingston College)

ow, all of that has gone up in smoke, as a result of bullets from the guns of members of Jamaica's security forces, who shot Clarke dead while searching for alleged drug lord Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, across sections of the Jamaica capital, which has been marked by violent confrontation and major loss of life in a week of fighting.

Police figures point to 76 deaths -- 73 civilians, most of whom were killed in Tivoli Gardens, and three members of the security forces. Others claim that the death toll is much higher.

Clarke, 63, was gunned down in his Kirkland Heights home early last Thursday morning. The community is home to some of the shining lights of the Jamaican upper middle-class and upper-class.

So when the sound of a helicopter hovering overhead, with searchlights at their brightest trained on some houses and the sound of sporadic gunfire permeating the air all happened virtually at once, the people of the area became alarmed.

It was a lead-up to what Clarke's relatives believed to be the making of the movie they have titled: 'The killing of Keith Clarke'.

Clarke, a licensed firearm holder, was at home with his wife and daughter and would have been apprehensive over the rustling occurring outside. Prior to that, thieves had tried to break into the same house. This time, something had to give.

&quot;The family members heard a commotion outside and all three woke up almost at the same time,&quot; one source close to the family told the Sunday Observer on condition of anonymity.

Brown skin people with &quot;pretty hair&quot; - physical traits commonly found in those of mixed race who inherited wealth from their white fathers - are (were?) treated better in JA.

terms like 'good' and 'bad' ...or 'ugly' and 'pretty' are relative depending on who is doing the defining...

Unfortunately no one will be held accountable for this tragedy .Even though Mr. Clarke was regarded as a respectable member of society the fact that he did not have &quot;good hair&quot; all but guarantee that this investigation is dead in the waters.

As long as the security forces doesn’t violate the rights of the people with &quot;good hair&quot; , <span style="font-weight: bold">(it would be hell to pay if they do)</span> then it will be business as usual .All this phony talk of<span style="font-size: 14pt"> “out of many one people”</span> (the paper it is written on should be flushed down the toilet) is nothing but a illusion ,fabricated by the people with &quot;good hair&quot; to ensure that the masses will not wake up and question why the majority of the wealth(mostly ill gotten) in the country is held by a small none black minority. A minority hell bent on maintaining the status quo, even if it means violating the human rights of the people with &quot;bad hair&quot;.

The Keith Clarke story should serve as a warning to a lot of us Jamaicans of African descent , who support the status quo and entertain the misguided idea that if they get a good education and accumulate enough money to purchase a two or three story house in upper ST Andrew, that will somehow immune them from same injustices inflicted on the masses, Well think again.

INVESTIGATIONS into the fatal shooting of 58-year-old businessman Keith Clarke at his home in upper St Andrew during a joint police-military operation on May 27, are to be closed soon.
While not divulging information on the findings so far, Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington said the investigations are at an advanced stage.
“The investigation is still incomplete. But the last update we got from ACP [Granville] Gause, who is the lead investigator, is that the investigation is well advanced. We promised the Clarke family that when there are new and significant developments in the case we would first inform them and then we would inform the public. But we have the assurance from Mr Gause that the investigations are going very well and it should be closed pretty soon,” Ellington said.
He was speaking at a press conference last week, where he outlined measures to compensate for the loss of additional powers previously granted to the police under the State of Emergency.
Clarke was shot to death inside his house in the upscale Kirkland Heights neighbourhood during a police-military operation to nab accused drug kingpin Christopher 'Dudus' Coke. A post mortem conducted on the businessman revealed that he was shot 20 times.

How is she part of the problem when she has been advocating for the human rights for <span style="font-weight: bold">all</span> jamaicans for years,she has been at the forefront of the fight against extra judicial murders by the police,she has stood firm for years against police brutality and the oppression of poor people in the ghettos,...how is she a part of the problem....?

maybe you should engage yourself a bit more with certain issues before you get emotional about every perceived slights.
