I agree with that but all the same, were it a done deal, Palin would then play it up as showing how free thinking she and her family (that SHE raised) are and try to make it work to her advantage politically.

It sure didn't hurt the Maine governor's political career.

If the man had a political future in mind, he would not adopt a black son and not make him seem exemplary. That kid would not be hanging out on a street corner in baggy pants with ghetto kids but would be directed towards college and the other trappings of success.
I cannot picture that kid saying &quot;Yo ni66a! , my old man's the governor&quot; while flashing gang signs at the swearing in ceremony.

i beg ur pardon...the young man's father made him exemplary...n i bet u dat his golfing skill is reason y it would not have been hard to facillitate his tekking him to Ja...from wat i read he was pawt of a golf training program in Ja....separate from his daddy being a caddie...

n suburban kids dont have to to to the ghetto to act ghetto themselves...juss like how u identify such a behaviour they do too and practise it in their suburbs....n no he wudden be braggin on the gov wen even two a di gov dawta no even live in the US..dem live a Canada...n gov wud pick n choose wen having a black adoptee was an advantage to be flashed...wudden tek him if speaking at say, the DAR

Mainte's governor's daughter didn't marry a black man that I am aware of. He just sort of fostered one.

There are two issues here; the first is the controversy regarding the governor's refusal to participate in the NAACP's celebration of MLK Day for which he should be accused of insensitivity which is especially egregious since he is the leader of all the people in the state. It would not have hurt him in the least to have attended and would have set a fine example of supporting the cause of black equality in Maine and more importantly on the national level. To not do so and allow it to become a national issue fans the flames of racism.

The second issue is the fact that he DID adopt a disadvantaged black boy and in doing so set a fine public example of what is a right and good thing to do for race relations.
He should be commended for this.
