for the Congresswoman....fleet of vehicles escorting her to airport...Challenger aircraft to transport her to the hospital etc..

dont get me wrong..i know she is badly hurt etc, but in this day wen dem trying to repeal the effort to allow the average citizen access to basic health care, i wonder if anyone notice the vast divide between the average citizen n the person dem vote to look after dem interest

who do you think paying the bill. the taxpayer. Im sure as a congress woman, theres some sort of benefit directed under congress. kinda like when a cop gets shot in the line of duty.

these govt employees have ROYALTY health insurance plans .... plus the added scenario of being hurt while &quot;on the job&quot;, so whatever insurance isn't covering, her 'employers' (i.e.the taxpayers) <span style="font-style: italic">are</span>

and yeh we average citizens are all over it.. there's issues, petitions, questions being raised right right now to the govt, on behalf of the people <span style="font-style: italic">(not that it's gonna do any good IMHO)</span> .... asking them if they repeal the health care bill will they also be prepared to get regular old crappy health care like the resta the regular working people in this country have to deal with.

That federal healthcare can really be considered royalty fi true. $5 co-pay for perscriptions.

You have it fairly right. Except it was really set up from the beginning to be a government of the people by the people and for the people. What they did not put in writing was what came at the end of &quot;a government of the people by the people and for the people and that was &quot;with the money&quot;

The whole point of the American Revolution was to get away from rule by King George and decidedly NOT to change the rule of the haves over the have-nots.
The U.S government was set up by a new aristocracy of rich white men.
They did not change rule from the top. The Senate is the new House of Lords put in place to keep the rabble in the House of Representatives from carrying out the will of the common people.
Since then, of course, the corporations have been legally and illegally bribing all the elected people including the president to do what the corporations want and NOT what we, the electorate want.

I am now researching countries whose health-care system is = or better than the US, and available to immigrants. I'd like a tropical climate, with English/French or American systems. I want to retire to tropical climate, but at my age, I need good health care availability.

There is truth in what both Evanovitch and Q3210 say.

If you are a person coming to Cuba for healthcare you DO go into a higher level of care than would the average Cuban. The average Cuban has his family doctor at the first level of care and then a local clinic if the doctor deems it necessary or what the Cuban needs is beyond what he can do at the Cuban's or the doctor's home. After that the average Cuban is bumped up to more specialized facilities as his/her case requires culminating in the bigger hospitals in Havana for extreme cases.

A person coming in as a foreigner needing healthcare would probably be coming in with a serious and already diagnosed ailment and would have already been set up at a higher level facility hospital specializing in that ailment.

Life in Cuba IS much different given the socialist economy, the hardships that the U.S embargo imposes on the whole society and the general poverty that is prevalent in the Third World in general.

If you are from Jamaica the differences would not be as drastic as they would be for someone who has spent their entire life in the wealthy United States.

Someone from the States not accustomed to any deprivation would probably not prefer to live and make a living in Cuba (even if they would accept you on that basis rather than someone who would live as a guest/visitor/ long-term tourist as some with independent incomes do).
That said there are those who are dedicated to socialist principles and the Cuban revolution who do choose to live a more difficult life there than they would in the belly of the beast; the U.S.A.

I recently found the Havana Times website and find it exceptional for getting a truer picture of Cuba than I have been able to get trying to walk the line between the ludicrously anti-Cuban websites like therealcuba.com and the official press Granma of the Cuban Communist Party that tends to accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative aspects of Cuban life.
If you are thinking of living in Cuba or spending some time there I would highly recommend spending as much time as you can reading what is to be found at the Havana Times.

BTW, NPR tonight mentioned that they are running a high speed internet cable from Venezuela to Cuba . They can't run it from Florida due to the U.S embargo/war on Cuba.
It will make the internet service better there but since the government pays for internet wiring etc, access will still be limited for the average Cuban. This probably due to both economics and for control during the war.
It will be interesting to see what happens regarding internet access and a whole host of other things like alternative press, public internet protests etc if and when the war to destroy Cuba is ended by the United States.
