I had pretty much the same thing happen to me... go figure. I used to copy and paste articles from the NYTimes there. But no you can't do that I was told... copyright and all that. So I wrote to the Times and asked them, and they wrote back saying it was okay... but they would appreciate a link back to the source. Rob didn't care and insisted no... and, that has made all the difference.

I was in Libya..during the embargo.. they had just made computers legal (yes computers were illegal like they were in Cuba at the time.. just got back from Cuba a few months before...) Libya telecom had just allowed internet and some entrapnuearal soul had set up the first internet cafe

I had heard of the first internet cafe so I parked my car infront of the Reggata Camp (Saif al islam had a flat there) in line of sight of the state security at the gate on a Friday during during Friday prayers, as I was told that thre was a line in front the block.. I got on line .. searcched on the internet for Jamaican news.. becacuse I could not find the gleaner... First result was Jamaicans.com.. thought the news page was crap.. thought the editorials were bland.. Then I went to the forums and met the other half of creations singularity.. my souls missing half , the lady who gave a walking day labourer a glass of water when she was a litte girl... ah the fragrancy of the Jazzy one.



I then discovered a whole lot of people who never congealed labour in Jamaica...wanna be suffras....angst driven, indentity craving who have ossified Jamaica into an image that it had long shreded.. Yankis and sweedes who want to recreate Jamaica into their image

I stayed on the internet for 13 hours mostly on Ja.com. I missed a dinner with my manager from Italy, the Italian and British Ambadasors.. That was at 5 dinars an hour a grand total of 40 cents on the black market exchange rate. I walked out got into my car, turned on the engine, the car moved off, then hit the ground with a bump then wouldnt move....some one had stolen the front tyre off my car and left it on a pile of bricks!!!! some state security...

Was looking for anything and everything that was related to Jamaica because I missed home so much.

Came upon Ja.Com but just lurk, started to post when Marcia passed that was such a sad time even thou I did not know her.

it was 1998 and i was preparing to return to jamaica to work. i found the front part of jcans.com, people's stories of their time in jamaica.

i found the back end when i came back to canada a year later, and joined in 2000.

sometime later i found out marcia and i worked in the same organization, just three floors apart.

Suggestion for the owners, moderators:

How about a forum for those of us who create art or have hobbies and pastimes that can be seen at our websites ? We don't make enough money to buy ads and such a forum may bring in many more readers to Jamaicans.com to see what we do. </div></div>

I forgot about this thread, dang, because it is fun to read the responses! The talk of Marcia really brings back memories. I miss her so. She strolled boardlane with grace...

Johnnycakes does have a great suggestion, because I know there is a plethora of talent on this site! We have Wendy, writer extraordinaire. Vannie, your creations are wonderful, and functional too! Wearable art... There is the Akil and Saltfish cartoon guy Gary, Green Biscuit, a wonderful artist, and I remember a soap and lotion maker, her name escapes me at this minute, but there are so many! QK, she is amazing as well...did you all ever see her art?

One of the first clues to the amount of talent just in the little tourist yard section was a while back, in the Jamaicaholics yard, a bunch of us joined in Artist Trading Card making sessions and what fun that was! Everyone who participated created little baseball size art cards to trade and they are wonderful and so personal and creative...

was in florida and was searching for recipes... cause I missed Jamaican food which I never thought of cooking as it was easy to just buy it there...
