How is it vague ? That there are a distinct group of people who speak Semitic languages is well established.

It's bad enough that the area known as Europe is the smallest of the continents.. Be careful as it may appear that you want to deny the Europeans a continent of their own..

From the little I have read, their roots or origin lies within the confines of the Caucasion mountains which happens to divide Europe from Asia.. One thing I do know is, that they have travelled far and wide, blazed a trail and continue to leave their &quot;marks&quot;...

so are you suggesting 'semites' are a racial group based on the language they speak?

yes that is also one of the explanations...of course that is supposing that a guy named noah had a son named shem who was a distinct race from his other two brothers- ham &amp; japeth- &amp; that one man populated a whole people...
some would say shem is a mixture of ham (black) &amp; japeth (white)...hence 'semi'...
as far as the allegory of noah's son's is concerned

No. My original post was a question regarding jc's description of Israelis as &quot;Europeans&quot;. &quot;Semite&quot; does not denote a homogeneous racial group any more than the term &quot;European&quot; would.

Well the historicity of the story of Noah is a separate issue. The origin of the term &quot;Semite&quot; no more depends upon the accuracy of the events portrayed in the book of Genesis than whether or not a man named Jesus Christ existed negates the fact that the term Christian was derived from his name.

if you are so adamant that 'semites' is from noah's son shem, then why don't you call black people 'hamites' and call anti-black racism 'anti-hamitism'...
why don't you call white people japhetites?

since we are basing humanity on the allegorical story of noah's ark and pretending a man could have 3 sons who are completely different races who would populate the entire earth...i guess noah had no east asians or native americans or pacific islanders on board the ark?

I am not sure how to make this any clearer so let me say it again.…I am not dealing with the truth or otherwise of the story of Noah. I have zero interest in arguments about what parts of the Bible are true and what parts are not. I find those arguments to be a complete waste of time. I am merely suggesting that the word Semite has its origins in the book of Genesis. This is NOT a statement about the truth of what is written therein.

As far as the color of the skin of those referenced in Genesis, I will have to defer to your knowledge of these matters. I have not a clue about that.

which is meaningless because
1- the modern israeli is an immigrant from primarily europe, not an indigenous &quot;son of Shem&quot;....

2- the Ham, Shem &amp; Japeth story is allegory and not an actual historic event...

incidentally, Canaan, son of Ham, is the Palestine area according to the bible...
Ham was also the father of Ethiopia &amp; Egypt according to the Bible...

does this make Canaan black? seems so, no?
