-paul bogle & those guys were murdered
-marcus garvey was hounded & basically run out of jamaica
-walter rodney was banned from jamaica then murdered in guyana
-bob marley was banned from radio & attempted murdered

This was further explored as he likened it to Bob Marley who at the beginning of his career was rejected and called "rasta boy", "ganja smoker", but now he is poster boy for the Jamaican Tourist Board.

The Media
Vybz Kartel spoke to the media using his name in order to sell newspapers, and asked the question why they focus on the negative aspects of his life rather than the positive.

Case in point, he mentioned headlines such as "Kartel's Skin Colour", "Allegations of Feuding with Kartel" etc. He has begged the question why not the positives such as "Kartel's Regular Good Deeds", "Kartel first Deejay to open his own Rum Factory", "Kartel chooses business ventures to Employ Jamaicans".</div></div>

Sadly, many, many people - as the tape shows - think it's ok to beat a woman; that it depends on the circumstance, maybe she provoked her attacker, perhaps wanted it, deserved it even.

That man IS a coward. I saw people stepping in to stop the abuse. The woman might have let it go but she threw stones and went back to hit back. He [the coward] would then attack her from behind or when he had her tied up with his arms.

IF people there felt he had a 'point' to make...surely he made it quickly. The rest was just FAR and away beyond what anyone should have condoned. I don't think that people should be hitting one another unless one is at risk of physical demise. [she certainly appeared to be] But...we don't know what really precipitated the one sided onslaught. Maybe she hit him...or kicked him first? Hard to judge the whole without the whole story. But still. The youth was 99% wrong at the very least.

I watched for maybe 3 1/2 minutes. Looks like it went on for over 6 minutes. But enough was way more than enough.

Early TV [westerns particularly] and movies like Chuck Norris style action thrillers taught some in Jamaica how to 'deal' with problems. American influence at its worst.

Several points:

Many Jamaicans are really into misogynist music, violent music, a love of Glocks, violent films, the glamorization of criminals. How do these things NOT lead to violence against women.
The loss of self esteem that the poor economy brings to the many unemployed men also leads to the need to assert their masculinity, their power over something and a (weaker) woman is apparently an easy and available target for their frustrations.

Also, Jamaica is a very Bible devoted country and what does the Bible have to say about the man-woman relationship?

The main New Testament word that shows the relationship between women and men is hypotasso, which means "submit" and "obey." Judge for yourself whether the bible's use of hypotasso (identified by the boldface words below) indicates woman's subservience:

"Let your women keep silent in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church." (I Corinthians 14:34-35)

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence." (I Timothy 2:11-12)

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church . . . Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing." (Ephesians 5:22-24)

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord." (Colossians 3:18)

"Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands." (I Peter 3:1)

"That they [aged women] may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed." (Titus 2:4-5)

W. E. Vine, in An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, writes: "HYPOTASSO, primarily a military term, to rank under (hypo, under, tasso, to arrange), denotes (a) to put in subjection, to subject . . . "subdue" . . . (b) in the Middle or Passive voice, to subject oneself, to obey, be subject to . . . See OBEDIENT, SUBMIT."

The American Heritage Dictionary defines "obey" as: "1. To carry out or fulfill the command, order, or instruction of." It defines "submit" as: "1. To yield or surrender (oneself) to the will or authority of another."

This hardly suggests partnership! Nowhere in the bible are men told to "hypotasso" to women.

We don't need to look outside the New Testament to see that hypotasso means total subservience:

These verses all use hypotasso: to put "under." Women are told to submit to men with the same Greek word used to direct slaves under masters, youth under elders, subjects under kings, criminals under the law. What could be worse? Could there be any stronger evidence that Christian women are meant to be subservient?

The New Testament gives a vivid example of how women should submit:

"For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection [hypotasso] unto their own husbands. Even as Sara obeyed [hypakouo] Abraham, calling him lord." (I Peter 3:5-6) How exactly did Sara obey Abraham? Without objecting, she allowed herself to be pimped to King Abimelech, passed off as Abraham's "sister." (Genesis 20:1-11)

I'd like people to take a step back and look at the build of many "trouble makers" in their communities (growing up) in Jamaica..

For the most part they were wimps.. Skinny, efeminate dudettes.
The girl in the subject video in this thread looks like, given the right arena, she could pound the ediots a-zzz.. I am sorry that brick she picked up never kappaclarted him baxside.

Growing up, aside from a rearfew, the women beaters I knew were all wimps..

All these dudettes acting like dem a bad man.. Check how they dress, carry themselves in Jamaica.

Stormmey.. UWI (for me) has been a dissapointing institution.
Its produced many of the leaders from the past administration which raped the country for nearly 2 decades.

Sorry, but asserting that men who beat up woman is somehow connected men who are gay makes no sense at all.
But then, homophobia also seems to run strongly alongside misogyny in Jamaica so that conclusion is probably the prevailing thinking.
