The above quotes from the article are the 800lbs gorilla in the room that most Jamaicans don't want to confront.There is a well entrenched color caste system still existing on that former slave plantation island.I know it is unsettling to a lot of people (on and off this board) whenever i make reference to it.Now the whole world is slowly awaking to the fact. </div></div>

So whose fault?
I am 99% sure, that by sheer numbers there are more black elites, especially since Michael Menlie and his gang did their best to chase them out of the country in the 70s, then PJoke completed the <span style="font-weight: bold">Black Man Time Now</span> by wiping out the new Jamaican entrepreneurs.

Blacks are very much in charge in Jamaica and I suggest that the problem lies in the slums that many of the bleachers come from. The pressure for theses folks to become lighter is coming from <span style="font-weight: bold">Vybz Kartel</span> rather than <span style="font-weight: bold">Azzan Cartels</span>.

before Michael Manley there was no black elite.
The black middle class was limited to those working in government and a few in the bauxite industry.
There was no black ownership of any industry or commerce This speak of.
Michael Manley could only do what he did because of the dissatisfaction of the majority who so their case as hopeless.
People with the colour of Michael Lee Chin or darker couldn't hold bank and civil service post.
That is why They had a civil service commission.
it was to keep out blacks.
and even then blacks tried to lighten their skin by progeny.
They marry lighter shade people if They had any money.
Since They know That in those the policy was.

vybz kartel is a symptom &amp; not the disease;
the disease existed before kartel was even born &amp; only seems to be getting worse...

You are talking nonsense. There have been more pro-black and black pride arguments in Jamaica since the 70s than any arguments favouring white, light, brown or pink.
I cannot remember one argument that says whites/brown/grey/beige/pink folks should have their time and the run of the place.

We have been bombarded with arguments saying just that.


As for the rants about foreigners buying up property? What does this have to do with Bleaching?
Are Jamaicans not buying properties in foreign countries as well as Jamaica?
Why don't Jamaicans want to buy property in Jamaica?

So you blame politicians?
I don't know one Jamaican Politician that supports bleaching.
In 2007 I heard a caller to POL describing his life as bleached out Don.
He was calling to complain that the Portia Simpson Government was going to ban Bleaching Creams.

He said if she did that he was not going to vote for her in the upcoming elections.
He said he knows that she bleached and for that reason he could not see why she would want to ban Bleaching.

I have zero evidence that Portia Bleaches, but it does show the mentality and the culture of the practice.

There were post-slavery Black Elites.

Even if you are right. It been 30 years since Menlie and during that time we have had Black re-Education in the form of <span style="font-weight: bold">Black Man Time Now</span>.
So we have many Black Elites if that was the cure!

I apologize to Vybz Kartel it did not start with him.
It was earlier when Buju said:

Mi love mi cyar, mi bike, mi money an ting
But most of all mi love mi browning.

What he was vocalizing was the base of the Post 70s culture, born of the upheavals.
The new found freedom that put a premium on Light skin, not out of any holdover from slavery and/or colonialism but from the personal freedom and choice to do what they want with their bodies and lifestyles..

Vybz Kartel is now the peak of of this culture and has managed to expand on what Buju Banton had distilled down to a few lines on wax.
This need no great theory to prove, the bleachers have put it in their own words, committed to paper. We should stop listening to voices in our collective heads and examine their testimonies.
