I wouldn't denie that that happened.
Since i have heard it my self many times in Jamaica.
But the people who does tho things have no power.
They usually have very little of anything except their ability to speak to people who are not interested in them.

A pleading for attention i call It.

They have no power and are given the the attention of equal value.

So you blame politicians?
I don't know one Jamaican Politician that supports bleaching.
In 2007 I heard a caller to POL describing his life as bleached out Don.
He was calling to complain that the Portia Simpson Government was going to ban Bleaching Creams.

He said if she did that he was not going to vote for her in the upcoming elections.
He said he knows that she bleached and for that reason he could not see why she would want to ban Bleaching.

I have zero evidence that Portia Bleaches, but it does show the mentality and the culture of the practice. </div></div>
Compare pictures of the form prime minister Hugh Shearer with the recent ones the years since 1980.
Compare his pictures and the number of shade differences.

More like raccoon... Cause, as I remember seeing it, they wouldn't apply the creams to the eyelids or the soft skin beneath the eyes... partly I think, cause they were concerned about 'blindness'... the end result is that that part of the face would retain it's natural colour... while the rest of the face got 'lighter'...

I do feel a way about these articles though. Has Yahoo ever made it front page news about white women bleaching their anuses and getting plastic surgery on their vaginas? It <span style="text-decoration: underline">seems</span> to me that these articles disproportionately focus on black people. Then you get some idiot at work or wherever saying (or even worse, thinking) because you're both black and Jamaican that you must bleach too. Cho
