I have a bit of sympathy for her - she couldn't have been in her right mind. Not all of us can be strong.

But I<span style="font-weight: bold"> have </span>to agree with you JY. No excuse at all for what she did - <span style="font-weight: bold">no matter HOW horrible he was</span>.

I note that she had 3 kids with him - 3!

Why not stop at the 1? Or 2?

Once you see the guy is a rat, you've got to bust a move man - get on about your life and leave him. Dont bring ANOTHER child by him into the world. dang ... !

Very sad.

You are asking rational questions. When someone is overcome with a mental illness that goes untreated, many times they are not capable of being rational.

We can all sit back and be armchair psychologists on this very sad situation. We could attribute her demise to her circumstances all day long, it does not change the fact that she is dead and so are three of her children.

<span style="font-size: 11pt">I am one of these persons that are still not convinced that when someone does <span style="font-weight: bold">something evil or kill that they are mentally ill.</span> I am not pointing fingers at this lady.....it could very well be that she was <span style="font-weight: bold">mentally ill/or not</span>. I still firmly believe that when<span style="font-weight: bold"> some people </span>decide to kill themself and take others with them.....<span style="font-weight: bold">the ultimate is to forever hurt those left behind </span>(operative here being on some) Just plain evil and <span style="font-weight: bold">moi</span> do not classify EVIL as mental</span>

u see mental illness is a terrible thing, and like the cold or flu, we have symptoms, in the case of mental illness, the symptoms are not that visable, and if not treated, this is what can happen.....

i believe it takes a very disturbed individual to do something like this,

noting her age to maturely seek help, and ways to deal with her stress,

He was able to do this because he is the surviving parent of the children and because when madeex decide fi kill herself and her pikney dem, she did not have a will stipulating her wishes for her and the children's remains.

Also the mothers side of the family had a public funeral whereas he kept it uber private and limited the guests on the mothers side to bout 13 or so ???

Human beings need to understand that having children and being a parent is not something to be taken lightly, it is the hardest thing you will EVER do in your life, and if you don't have life skills and coping mechanisms in place, you will be in big trouble.

A relative of the mother walked out of the small funeral home in Spring Valley shouting, &quot;I don't care. This side of the family matters.&quot;
Gwendolen Green, a second cousin of the mother, LaShanda Armstrong, said too few of Armstrong's relatives were allowed in to the service, which was organized by the children's father. She said she was &quot;escorted out&quot; of the private service after she stood up for her 17-year-old son who was &quot;manhandled&quot; when he tried to get in.
&quot;The last straw was when they messed with my child,&quot; she said.
Armstrong, 25, loaded her four children into a minivan on April 12 after an argument with the father of the three youngest. She drove down a boat ramp in Newburgh into the river. The oldest child, 10-year-old La'Shaun Armstrong, crawled out a window and survived.
Armstrong's funeral was Thursday. A joint funeral had been planned for the mother and children, but the father, Jean Pierre, said last week that he would hold a separate service for the children. Armstrong's relatives were angry with the decision.
Mourners arriving for Monday's service were checked against a list before they were allowed inside.
Green said she was not on the list, but she managed to get in.
&quot;You're not going to keep me from going in and seeing my family,&quot; she said.
Michael O'Connor, a lawyer for Pierre, denied there was any restriction on guests from Armstrong's side of the family. He said Armstrong's relatives were simply asked to provide a list of guests for police and the funeral home.
&quot;We didn't hear any complaints,&quot; in advance, he said.
Green said La'Shaun did not attend the service for his three siblings, Landen Pierre, 5; Lance Pierre, 2; and Lainaina Pierre, who would have turned 1 year old last week.

The mourners were divided into factions inside the funeral home, Green said.

Theresa Riggi, 47, originally from California, pleaded guilty in March to killing her children – eight-year-old twins Austin and Gianluca, and their sister Cecilia, five – at their home in west Edinburgh.

She stabbed each of them eight times and then allegedly tried to cover up their deaths with a gas explosion, before trying to kill herself by leaping out of their second-floor flat. Riggi was facing court action for custody by her estranged husband, Pasquale Riggi, an oil industry engineer in Aberdeen.

Passing sentence at the high court in Glasgow, Lord Bracadale told Riggi she had subjected her children to &quot;a truly disturbing degree of violence&quot; and was guilty of a &quot;ghastly and grotesque&quot; act.

The judge said Riggi had &quot;a genuine but abnormal and possessive love&quot; for her children.

The court heard in March that Riggi suffered from narcissistic, paranoid and hysterical personality disorders, had refused to allow her husband to share a bed with her and the children, and had been increasingly possessive. The couple separated soon after Cecilia was born.

Psychiatrists did not, however, believe she was mentally ill, the judge said. &quot;The result of these acts is a devastating family tragedy. The father of the children, Pasquale Riggi, and the wider family, have been left utterly bereft by the loss of the children.&quot;

The prosecution accepted Riggi's plea of culpable homicide, the Scottish version of manslaughter, on the basis of diminished responsibility in March. Charges accusing her of recklessly causing an explosion by tampering with her home's gas cooker were set aside.

Bracadale said this plea and her mental state did not absolve her of blame. &quot;The effect of the diminished responsibility is to reduce these crimes from what would have been exceptionally wicked crimes of murder to what are still very serious crimes of culpable homicide,&quot; he said.

&quot;The number and nature of the stab wounds to each child is indicative of a truly disturbing degree of violence, which, in order to bring about the deaths of three children, must have been sustained over a significant period of time.

&quot;It is difficult to envisage the physical commission of such acts. Dr Crichton [a psychiatrist] considers that the degree of violence and the sustained nature of it are inexplicable in terms of your disorder of the mind.

&quot;It is clear that any degree of responsibility for such ghastly and grotesque acts must be visited with a lengthy sentence of imprisonment.&quot;

Outside the court, in a statement read out on his behalf by David Sinclair, of Victim Support Scotland, Pasquale Riggi said his children's deaths would leave an &quot;indelible mark on the rest of his life&quot;.

He added: &quot;They were such wonderful, energetic, bright and happy children. Those of us who had the pleasure of knowing Cecilia, Luke and Austin looked forward to watching them grow.

&quot;There is no justification for this heinous crime, repeated three times, nor is there any sentence that can provide justice for the overwhelming loss of three lives and the subsequent painful grief and devastation caused to surviving family and friends.&quot;

Bracadale said that Riggi would have been sentenced to 18 years in prison, but he added a discount of two years following her guilty plea. He told Riggi she would be deported as soon as her sentence was completed, and placed on the child protection register.

The children's bodies were discovered side by side minutes after a gas explosion at their home in Slateford, west Edinburgh. Passersby saw Riggi clamber over the second-floor balcony of the building and throw herself off. Her fall was broken by a neighbour, who managed to push her falling body on to a parked car. Riggi had several self-inflicted wounds.

Donald Findlay QC, her defence counsel, told the court in March that Riggi was &quot;in the midst of an acute stress reaction&quot; at the time of the murders.

&quot;Theresa Riggi is not evil, she is not wicked, she is not a monster. If it is possible to love one's children too much, she loved them too much. [She] believed the children and she were safer together in death than they ever could be in life,&quot; he said.

The court heard in March that Riggi had been due to attend a hearing on the children's future the day before they were killed. The court of session, Scotland's civil court, had already seized Riggi's passport and appointed a child psychologist.

Alex Prentice QC, for the prosecution, said that several days before the deaths, she had told a friend that things were so bad he would &quot;hear about it on the national news&quot;. Two days before the explosion, Riggi had accused her husband during a telephone conversation of being in collusion with their solicitors and asked if he would take the children away. After he told her she &quot;left him no choice&quot;, Riggi retorted, &quot;say goodbye, then&quot;, and hung up the phone.

And dang - look at the kids! What a lovely family they had.

Look - filicide is nothing new. Not new at all. Both mothers and fathers have been doing it since time.

It's always going to be a sad situation. And there's never any understanding, reason, justification for it.

Want to do some killing? Take your OWN self out. Not the innocent kids.
