There was a time when our fashion designers were lauded and highly visible. Nowadays when I read the online Gleaner I rarely see any mention of our designers.

Ivy Ralph is in her 70s or so now.. people in that age range noh usually embrace technology. She living in Ja and enjoying herself </div></div> </div></div>


Barry Moncrieffe is still designing..thank gawd fi dat...he is of NDTC note n his family business of dat decorative patio funrnishing, grills fi house etc...i love his designs ..he does this black n white theme for which he is lauded....again , like Mrs Ralph championed our cutwork, natural fabrics, etc etc etc

classy man in the similar vein of Mrs Ralph...work speaks for itself n not partial to follow fashion...innovator

that is my issue...we have people who are n have been critical to our cultural evolution..i am [censored] off that if i put in Ivy Ralph and Jamaica , all i get is RALPH LAUREN....

Would it be Google's fault? Is the result determined by the search engine or the # and content of searches?

that is my understanding ..the search engine is trying to use some kind of logic to determine what you are searching for an return the most appropriate result.

they have companies who specialize in how to get your information picked up earlier int he search results.

I think it starts tho, with the content having to be OUT there somewhere, to even be picked up, grabbed, resulted.

If there's little or nothing out the world about Mrs Ralph, then little will get picked up, grabbed, resulted. Yes?

If the content is not there, there is nothing to pick up via search engines, but I think google more than the others, one can manipulate the results to bring up a specific reference to &quot;Ralph&quot;.. It's quite possible she is on page 4 of the results, but mi tend to believe she nuh have any content out there.

Searching via the gleaner website might be more fruitful

search engine optimization. the customer, not google, haffi tag them information so that it is picked up by search engines.

If Jamaica has some sort of official fashion guild or institute they would be the main organization promoting JA style (assuming Ms. Ralph is retired and/or not interested in technology).

The closest thing I could find to a grouping of Jcan designers is this: http://www.caribbeanfashionweek.com (Moncrieffe is listed).

The sponsors all seem to be from the tourism, food&amp;drink, and media industries - no mention of any of the technical institutes or government, or any federation.

If <span style="font-weight: bold">we</span> were running things, European designers wouldn't be making bucks off Jcan heritage without it benefiting the country, c.f. Dior Rasta.

But we know that Ja lauds the foreign over the local ...e.g.calabash vs jazz festival in getting govt assistance.. this post came about because I read an interview on the home page , of a Slovakian who has moved to Ja n is now a fashion designer n her claim to fame so to speak is her alliance wid a singer ...I also have noted the press given even newly arrived East Indians who have set up 'fashion houses' in Ja n r lauded for infusing their traditional wear with 'Jcan culture'...
