Can you give samplings of your lyrics? We need more information on what you are looking for -- what are your expectations and what type of results are you seeking

Here's a start for you... give sampling of lyrics in english which potentially may be translated in written patois

If you are looking for Jamaican expressions/phrases etc... there's a wealth of info on Jamaicans.com on various Jamaican phrases, expressions and perhaps proverbs. Start by going to the jamaicans.com home page

If you are specifically looking for verbal expressions, perhaps post sentences in english, and ask for someone to do an audio translation which can be sent to you via email or some other medium.

For the lyrics: It was the opposite, Patois to English transcriptions. Internet translators never include Patois so it's basically impossible when the words are local expressions. Otherwise I can understand about 60% of it since it sounds a lot like English.

What I am expecting is mostly to have a chat with someone speaking Patois (an English chat, of course) to know how the speakers feel about the language, if it provides any kind of nationalism, proudness or patriotism, like French in Quebec, since Jamaica's official language is English. I don't want to get informations on random websites, I want to get real stories from real people. That is why at first I mentioned: it would be even better if you live in Jamaica.

But anyways, yeah I can get the basic informations from the internet.
But google and wikipedia will never be worth witnesses and testimonials.

Alex - that's true, you will never get a &quot;feel&quot; of the vocalisation of the dialect if you read the written format, which often times varies in spelling. For what you are looking, the integration of living in Jamaica would help you greatly, but at a minimum, you'll need to reach out to the Jamaican community in Quebec. What about your school? No Jamaicans there?

Quebec is large, and I'd have to walk the streets holding a sign that says: &quot;anyone jamaican? come and see me!&quot;

But I did try, my friend goes to a pluriethnical school and is asking his friends if they know someone, and my grandma who works with women from many different ethnies is also going to look around for someone to help me.

But internet is faster. So I'm also trying here at the same time.

i was going to suggest that McGill and Concordia have quite a few Jamaicans and you could probably contact somebody through the Caribbean students association at either institution.
