I think that to solve the issue of language in Quebec is ban English and French a use Norwegian!

Yes I've been there many times. I saw tons of French people speaking English, but no English people speaking French, which is ridiculous. </div></div>

I suggest you spend some more time in Montreal my son ...Go to Rue victoria et Decourtrai you will meet many Jamaicans...

Learning about Quebec? If you do care I can have conversations, that was kind of included in &quot;having a chat&quot;. 'cause actually I gotta compare Quebec's French to Jamaican's Patois, since both our countries have English as official language but we don't speak it as a main language.

for some people, J'can patwa is to English what Quebec French is to France French. a variation of an original colonial language.

there are similarities between the experience of patwa speakers and french canadian speakers in terms of the respect (low) the lingua franca gets from the establishment.

yes. patwa in jamaica is looked on as inferior expression by the Standard English establishment folks. It may be the same for Quebec French - the English speakers may see it as the lesser language - dunno, is that your thesis? is joual still a phenomenon in Quebec, and if so, do speakers of &quot;standard French&quot; look down on it? that's a closer analogy to Jcan patwa.

Well maybe my grand-grandparends have known people speaking Joual. But I haven't heard of it in ages. There's tons of different french accents here, People from Saguenay, from Abitibi or even Montreal VS Quebec (the town of Quebec, not the whole province). But none of them is looked as a lesser language.

How about Jamaican schools? Is there schools that teach in Patwa or they're all English? Because from what I have found so far on the internet, ALL schools are English.

I'm not from Toronto, I'm near Montreal. And yes, people from every ethnic groups are welcome to our French schools, though you are not allowed in an English school (that's in Quebec only) if none of your parents have studied in an English school before you. That is kind of a way to integrate the immigrants better, if you come to Quebec you have to study in French so you speak the language of the people.
