Flashbangs aren't lethal - but they also aren't child's play: They totally blind and deafen one for (IIRC) about 10 seconds. They deprive one of their senses for those precious seconds - that's their entire point.

I'll wager quite a lot that the poor guy's brain didn't have time to register fear for his crotch, because the shock of the light-and-sound explosion, the smoke, and the percussion, all served to knock him on his baxide before concern for his crotch fully kicked in. Bet he forgot all about his crotch within a millisecond of detonation.

Mine too.

Not just after sporting events either. In Salt Lake City it was because the Olympic beer tent closed early. At Woodstock '99 it was because concessions were too expensive and trash pickup/porta potty servicing was too infrequent.

O the horrors those poor kids had to endure before they rose up in protest.

The USA Today article you posted also makes excuses for these rioters that it is very difficult to imagine would be made if the rioters were not white.

While this is sad, what has not received much attention by the media are the throngs of people who volunteered the next day to help clean up the downtown. So while there was a large mob bent on destruction, there was also nuff folks that have pride in their community and who were willing to roll up their sleeves to do the dirty work of helping to repair the damage done.

Milo, maybe it did not get much media attention in the &quot;center of the universe&quot; (Toronto) and the USA but here in AB the media has been over saturated with both the riots and the volunteer clean effort and the kiss that was not a kiss

They are not hiding coverage of this. It was on all the news stations.
This is unusual behavour. That's why it had the coverage that it did.
Vancouver in general has a low crime rate......Detroit?
Well, no one would have batted an eye. Same old.. same old.

Canadians rioting is nothing new nor is it rare. So all the pundits in the mainstream media and our resident racist need to stop acting brand new.

Interestingly but not surprisingly (except to our resident racist of course), most riots do not occur in majority black locales.

Most riots in N. America originate with sporting events and rock concerts.

Thank you! A voice of reason. This attitude about crime and violence has nothing to do with race; it is more to do with <span style="font-weight: bold">POVERTY </span>. Think about those 3 cities with the highest crime rates in the world; the three are scarred by the poverty and disenfranchisement of the populace and in the case of other events in N. America--alcohol. Cities which don't have the excuse of extensive poverty have their riots fueled with it, whether the cause is an athletic event, natural disaster, or rock concert.
