You can choose to not read the article but I posted it because it was so well written and would help to let people know what is really going on.

It's nothing to do with Obama specifically.

I could only watch about 3/4 of the video.
That women was saying that she supports Obama even though she was unhappy with what he is doing/not doing. She kept talking out of both sides of her mouth.

As the president of a university and a very public figure and someone who at all times represents that university, she is very limited in how critical she can be of any president. As a black woman at the head of a black university she is even more limited in what she can say about (the first) a black president.

I've heard that same illogical sentiment expressed here in these fora.

Blind support for a black president REGARDLESS of what he does and doesn't do is what I might expect from "P" "BS".

Tavis was a lot better than his guest.

back to the same issue..why does support expressed here have to be characterized as "blind"?

you preach blind opposition to this president and what he represents.

You're just chock full of questions to which you already know the answers.

Blind support of a pee-poor president because he is black, is racist and stupid.
You can look just about anywhere and find long lists of the things on which Obama has disappointed his still loyal supporters and too few actions that warrant any support from thinking people.

On the other hand we, on the left who knew well before Obama became president that he was nothing of the sort of person he NECESSARILY projected in his campaign., were both very well informed and not at all taken in by campaign rhetoric and the excitement of having a black candidate and then a black president.

WE know that all presidents are chosen by their respective parties to maintain the status quo; the oligarchy; the rule of the rich, for the rich, by the rich and NOT to be agents of change.

Do you agree or disagree with that summation?

There is an old saying: " In the realm of the blind, the one-eyed are kings."

We on the left have 20-20 vision in both eyes. Obama supporters have on blinders; they do not want to look at the reality..

here is my analysis:
do I think the US is going to move away from the current political/economic system before the next election?

given the limitation of the system in place i have to choose to support one of two options.

does the alternative offered present a better choice?

is that blind support ?

one could argue that it is much more "blind" to go on supporting an option that will never has a chance and that you know will never have a chance.

You, like many have chosen the "lesser of two evils" method of voting which has as much chance of being what you want as the always non-Republican, non-Democrat candidates for whom I vote.

The difference is that I know that candidates like Lyndon Johnson, like Jimmy Carter, like Obama are phony choices. They are not the lesser of two evils.

How does voting for Obama differ from those back in the 60's who voted for Johnson as the lesser of two evils?

Those whom (then) Malcolm X called "stupid and ignorant".

i seem to recall that you too were in the lesser of two evils camp just prior to the 2008 election...was that before you remembered lyndon johnson and jimmy carter? was that before you read Malcom X?

I have never voted for the lesser of two evils.
I would never advise voting for the lesser of two evils.

This has been my consistent position since I became politically/socially aware back in the 60s and when more people were politically conscious in general. I voted for a socialist candidate in the first presidential election in which I participated.

Noam Chomsky says that we get about 30 seconds of democracy and ALL of that takes place in the voting booth every few years.

Why waste those 30 seconds when you can vote with your conscience and your thinking faculties for someone you really want .....because when you vote as you do, you never get anything like the person or government you THINK you have voted for..

I would think that after a number of times when this happens, you'd get tired of being played for a sucker.

(BTW if you can come up with anything I posted that had me supporting the lesser of two evils, I'd like to both see that post and simultaneously retract it.)
