I'm sorry lornie, Democracy cannot be exercised by folks who gave up their right to reason, to bargain and to think for themselves. They are like serfs who need to be told what to do.. Those teaparty types ane not answerable to those they are supposed to represent..They are answerable only to their sworn leader.. not the voters... I would say, It's YOU that will NEVER get It..

Please, educate yourself on this topic. You don't understand what this movement is about. If you did, you would not be making the statements that you are making.
Those elected by the tea party movement swore to the people that elected them that they would do what they ran their campaign on, and that is the &quot;mission statement&quot; of the tea party.

Like them or not, they are the only ones in Washington that are representing their constituents as they promised.

PS Understanding their goals does not mean that you agree with them, it only means that you understand what you are talking about.

Hmmmm,
Like closing Guantanamo, helping the working people , getting out of two wars instead of engaging in six.


Obama will do what is best for raising campaign money for his and his party's next run. and since most of that money comes from the wealthy and the corporations, what he has done and what he will do is fairly predictable.

Lonrwolf has some idea of how democracy works.
That would be of significance WERE the United States a democracy and not an oligarchy.

Democracy is when all citizens have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives. That's what is happening. You need to put aside your obvious prejudice and take a step back and examine this from a far.


The simple fact that the teaparty was able to evolve as a force to be reckoned with among the two power brokers of American politics, proves that democracy works and exist. That is my point that you cannot grasp because of your blind ignorance to what is happening in Washington. The rediculous statement above proves my point that you don't have a clue. Your only concern is for your precious Obama. He is not important. Presidents come and presidents go. (thank god) The tea party movement was not created to rid the US of Obama. Again, you place to much importance on one man because he is the first black/white president to be elected.

The important issue in Washington is unsustainable spending, not Obama.

Spending and raising the money for that spending is what the government does.
The people who have the power to determine on what that money is spent and how we raise it are put in office by two parties who are owned by the corporations and the wealthy of the country.

This is an oligarchy, not a democracy and not even a representative democracy (republic) as intended by the founding fathers.

The Tea Party is the creation of those who want to cut spending for social services and cut taxes to the corporations and the wealthy.

They are not a majority but have enough votes to stalemate the closely divided government.

Their ideas in economic such as not raising the debt limits are not backed by the vast majority of people who know what economics are all about.

Defaulting not an option.

Paying for expenditures authorized by the government is mandated by the 14th amendment.

I would say that the Tea Party and other know-nothings should be given their way to teach the country a lesson but the collapse of the U.S economy is something that would devastate everyone and have disastrous worldwide effects.

We are in a deep recession and the only way to get out of this one is the same way Roosevelt got us out of the Great Depression and that is with massive government deficit spending.

Cutting spending during a deep recession makes things worse but that is what conservatives, the Tea party wants to do.

The point being that a little knowledge can be a very dangerous thing.

Do note that there is a big deal being made by the Tea Party people about NOT raising the debt ceiling: something that has always been done usually twice a year for the past 40 years or so.


Here's the excerpt;

RICHARD WOLFF: &quot; There are certainly signs of that. And they’re very troubling to many of us who are economists, right, left and center, because basically, the Democrats have said, &quot;We will do massive cuts. They just won’t be as massive as the Republicans want.&quot; And then they will appeal to the American people in the hope that Americans will choose the lesser evil: the Democrats who won’t cut so terribly compared to the Republicans.

And the Republicans are appealing to folks that are very upset by the economic situation, don’t know who to be angry at. In the American way, they get angry at the government. It’s a little bit amazing, if you take a step back. The overwhelming majority of people who’ve lost our jobs in this crisis have been fired by private employers. The overwhelming majority of people who have been thrown out of their homes have been—have had that happen because a private bank has gone to court to get that to happen. And so, the government, in general, and the particular government of Mr. Obama, is the target, and the Republicans are playing on this. And that’s their ploy.

And the Democrats are saying, &quot;Well, we’re not so bad. We’re going to tax the rich, just a little, and the corporations a little less. And that’s something the Republicans won’t do. And we will protect your Social Security, at least more than...&quot;

But you’re right. In the process, everything moves over to massive cutting. And besides the morals of that, it’s economically crazy. In an economic situation where recovery is very poor, very uneven, to have the government cut back, the way that spokesman for the White House just told us, is to make an economic situation that’s bad worse. So you see a kind of political game being played at the cost of worsening the underlying economic situation. And for the world, that suggests a society that’s not working.&quot;
