Norway Killer A Religious Nut

Today on Amy Goodman's "Democracy Now: The War and Peace Report that none of you listen to, they went over some points about the nut in Norway.

He thinks that the women's movement is largely to blame for many problems; that today's more independent women who are having fewer children aren't doing their Christian duty of keeping up with the faster growing Muslim populations of Europe, thereby threatening Christian civilization (an oxymoron).

He thinks they are largely immoral and to prove it he says (and this is really what he said) he and a friend or two toured Europe picking up (liberated) women who were willing to have one-night stands (sex) with them.

See, in his twisted way of thinking backed by the Bible [and ironically Islam] in which women are held to be inferior to men, it's okay for him as a male to have one night stands but not women )

I guess he forgot to read Leviticus under the rules of which he would be stoned to death for casual sex.

Thank you for the recap. Fanatics of any kind scare me. I wonder what this person's life acquaintances will have to say about him in the coming days.

Will they say they never expected him to do somethign like this, he was such a nice guy.

Or..

Will they say he was always off the wall and they feared someday he would do something like this.

You might have to live with someone before you know what's under their hat.
Others, more off the wall and more out of touch with reality tend to let their bizarre , often irrational ideas be known quite openly. They are salesmen for separate rooms in the loony bin.
They are so out of touch that they do not realize just how insane their ideas are and how they sound to rational people.

But then there are the taciturn twistos who live in a neighborhood for years and never say two words to anyone.
You wouldn't want to see their rec room or their freezer.
Scary guys.

So I see it.

Now, what confuses me is that the BBC reported a police chief as saying that <span style="font-style: italic">a helicopter couldn't be scrambled to Utoya because the closest one was too far in the south.</span>

And the Daily Telegraph: <span style="font-style: italic">Oslo police were informed three minutes later but a lack of suitable helicopters in the capital mean that Swat teams were forced to drive 28 miles across country before they were able to mount an armed assault on Utoya. </span>

Well, topographically based on the pic, it doesn't look like flatland. It looks like a pic taken from the hill on the other side of the river.

I just discovered the photo was taken by a Norwegian news reporter in a helicopter.

Media helicoptrs arrived before the police....Picture coyuls be from a person in a tree...(thats where I would go in that situation).. amatuers shootists tend not to look above the eye line when hunting humans. and movement on the ground tends to give u away... p

listen this is Norway in July... July is called the Norwegian Ramadan.. Most peiople are away.. Bit like Paris or Italy in August...

The other thing is that Friday is mostly half day work.. By law people only work 37 1/2 hours including the emergency services... Most leave work go home at 1300 on a Friday...that is why I found it strange about the bomb at first.. Then I was told he had a gruge agaist the labour party.. Especially agaisnt the former prime minister who spoke an hour before the shooting with whom he allegedly had a beef with. also if he had arrived 25 hour later the current prime minister might be speaking...

the serendipidity of battle.. like seeing a bullet puncture a wall pricisely where u were sheltetring a split seacond ago....

Much of right wing political thought is driven by fundamentalist Bible belief.
The crazies who bomb abortion clinics, demonstrate at military funerals, vote for policies that punish the downtrodden have Bronze Age beliefs behind their actions.
In their twisted thinking what the Bible says justifies their actions and why not?.

After all God admonished Moses for not killing all the women and children of a non-Jewish tribe, approved of slavery, stoning people to death for casual sex, or the wrong kind of sex , told women to go sit in a tent while they were menstruating and unclean.

If you can revere a book from the Bronze Age that contains and orders such obvious anti-social behavior, ANY crazy notion might seem rational.

You'd have had to have read Christopher Hitchens' &quot;God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything &quot; to begin to understand just how much religious insanity pervades all aspects of life and society and does it great evil.
Although I was and still am an atheist, I was tolerant of those who followed the Bible until I read this book and was made aware of just how adversely deep religious belief c affects MY life and the lives of billions.

But... as it is with articles and books that prove the immorality of right wing political beliefs, those who rely on faith and have an irrational need for keeping Bronze Age beliefs central in their lives will not, CANNOT read that sort of thing because they do use fact to counter fiction.

So ...as recent studies show, I am wasting my time in asking people on the right or deep into the God of the Bible to consider anything that puts the lie to those faith based beliefs.
