Should we allow USA postal service to go belly-up?

There are those in the past who have made comments that any business that is not competative should be allowed to go out of business. After all, everyrime you turn around they are asking the government for a rate increase. Remenber, they were privatized years ago and became a profit center, and is no longer directly funded by tax payer's money through the Government, only regulated, and protected by U.S.A. Federal laws.

So long as you are a tax payer, they should be there as a support system for you, me...., etc. However, we know better than that! They have no pronlems in sitting back and watching us struggle until wi dis-integrate.

Dem use tuh bi. Di odda day, di ediat mail person lef mi big package outa road side across di street wen mi nat home, instead ah com inna driveway ah drop it off.

Nex time mi out deh ah mow lawn, mi si truck fly pass goh dung street, mi wave hello him pass mi house. Nex ting mi know him ah back up street. Stop ah driveway com out open back ah truck. Him pull out big box (a power saw), it all ripped up, him bring it ova com gi tuh mi. Now mi ask yuh; whe him did ah drive goh wid mi package if mi neva did out deh an wave hello?

Sometimes dem wi ram over-sized box inna di mailbox whe mi haffi fight fi get out. Again, instead ah drive up inna di driveway an leave it ah mi door!

How dem expect fi compete if dem ah duh fawt like dat?

I have only had bad postal service at two places I have lived. Other than that, I have had no problems except for an occasional bad postman who is usually a fill-in for the regular..

The bane of my delivery experience has been UPS. They have been slow from day one, and now that a lot of their delivery drivers are contractors, it seems &quot;lazy&quot; should be added to the list. I have found packages under the steps, out in the rain, and every place but at the front door. Would it really kill them to ring the doorbell? I even caught one tipping down the steps after putting a notice on the door talking bout attempted delivery.

I do not think we should give the postal service any money, but we should continue to let them operate as is. They have teamed up with Federal Express so they really shouldn't be having any money problems. If they made a bad deal with them, then negotiate a new one.

I think I might be afraid of what would happen if the postal service closed. The cost of finding a place for all the p.o. boxes in a private service as well as updating to new numbers alone might make it worth the effort of keeping them operational.

Also, I think this might lead to FedEx becoming a monopoly. They already have their claws in the post office, Kinko's, and probably countless other businesses. Without the competition of the postal services rather low rates, it would probably end up being cheaper to get on a plane and fly your package as carry-on luggage wherever it needs to go.

The advent of e-mail is often cited as a cause of the USPS' difficulties but as with other large corporations with unionized employees (e.g., the airlines and the automotive industry) the USPS's financial problems are to a large extent, the result of promises (pension plans and health care coverage for retirees) made at the bargaining table that must be kept.

That is why finding a job that offers a pension and health care coverage when you leave is fast becoming a thing of the past.

yes....over the years i have pointed out some problems wid di post office service

first has been their pushing their overnight service etc wile not guaranteeing dat first class mail is still first class....tell u dat to mek sure u betta not use first class, use dem ovanite...

get some of dem ole slow ' job fi life' clowns...stop advertising.....stop giving money to be in di Olympics etc.

its hard to grasp how large an organization it is and the volume of material it moves.

i did not know tha the USPS was the second largest employer in the US

They're asking for permission to make changes in the way they operate.

The only thing I get in the mail is bills and unsolicited junk..

wee starting to see it up here too where groups like police and firefighters who in the past would have been untouchable are under heavy criticism..for salary and benefits
