i think she made some attempt to get a laff from the crowd by saying she thought it was time for a Jamaican queen. i don't know that she said she was to be that queen, but i'm willing to stand corrected on that.

regardless, the reaction from folks could have been more generous even if she said she wanted to be that queen. instead, her jokify statement is being used to vilify her.

You are right, it was said to get a laugh, which it did. it actually made a good impression on me because it showed me that Portia had a personality. Mr. Holness looked very stiff and serious throughout his time sharing the stage with the leader of the PNP.

I do not call her the queen out of disrespect, she referred to herself as that so the political cartoonist will use it and rightfully so. Just as if any political figure would have inadvertently called themselves a similar title, they too would be portrayed that way by the political satirist.

If Mr. Harper said it was time for Canada to get rid of the queen and that Canada needs a Canadian King, would people like Rick Mercer not have a field day with that? It's not disrespectful IMHO. It's political satire.

UNITED States President Barack Obama yesterday placed a congratulatory call to Jamaica's Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on her December 29 general election victory and commended the Jamaican people for their dedication to democracy.
&quot;The leaders discussed their shared responsibility for enhancing citizen security and underscored the importance of economic growth in advancing the well-being of all Jamaicans,&quot; a news release from the US Embassy in Kingston said.

&quot;President Obama also underscored the strong bonds of friendship between the American and Jamaican people, which includes the contributions of so many Jamaican-Americans,&quot; the embassy said, adding that Obama told Simpson Miller that he looked forward to working with her on bilateral and regional issues at the Summit of the Americas scheduled for April in Cartagena, Colombia.
