Re: .. President Romney??
whoever the republican nominee is has a very good chance of being the next president. a very large section of the US populations is ABO (anybody but Obama).
Romney might be much more reasonable that most of the others running.
the old joke they wake up an cannot believe that a black man is in the white house. When its hot in the jungle of peace I go swimming in the ocean of love.....

Re: .. President Romney??
Romney poses the biggest danger to Obama's relection. As the republican governor of a very liberal state - Massachusetts, he is liberal enough to attract liberal and independent voters. He is going to present himself as this former CEO with the business savvy and experience to fix all that ails America's economy. Conservatives are already locked in and will vote for any Republican nominee. Disappointed dems and independents could go for Romney or stay home. Either way Obama is going to have a tough fight.

That is if they can continue to keep the media from looking at the Latter Day Saints in more depth than they have thus far. Starting with Romney being a a High Priest in the Mormon Church, the whole White Horse prophecy business and that until 1978, the LDS Church taught that black people were “loathsome, filthy and lazy”, one of the reasons that his father, George Romney, lost his bid to run for the presidency in 1968.

i think this is why the GOP establishment is so reluctant to embrace him. When its hot in the jungle of peace I go swimming in the ocean of love.....

in regards to skeleton in the closet, could a similar agrument be made (loosely) about Catholism?

A fair comment. But Catholic slaveholders are not running for president of the United States today. Mitt Romney was an active member of the church when that statement was doctrinal.

Re: .. President Romney??
White folk, at least some, were able to look past Obama's race and affiliation with Jeremiah Wright and still vote for him. If anti incumbency sentiment is high Republicans will look past Romney's Mormonism too. Romney wants it bad and is spending a lot of his own money on his campaign. If his Mormon faith his dragging him down he'll cut it loose or declare himself to be a moderate Mormon or Mormon in spirit. PolIticians are politicians first. Also Harry Reid and Orrin Hatch are both high ranking politicians and it does not seem to have hurt them.
Funny thing too is I've been seeing a whole lot more Mormon activity lately. Went to the mall on the weekend and there were scores of them in the parking lot. Same thing in the area where I live. Not sure if it's coincidence or if I'm just noticing this thing more because mormons are getting more attention in the press.
