i've excerpted the above paras from ur post, because i think others on here could say the same about u. certainly in a couple of my interactions with u of late (separate and apart from the gardening and cooking posts which i totally enjoyed), i could say that u urself ignore studies and sources that u unilaterally deem unsuitable because they do not support ur worldview or opinion. when others do this u say it is backward, why is it not backward when u do it?

u continue to say and perhaps hold some truly offensive opinions about jamaicans and jamaican culture, and ur comfort level in saying this on a jamaican board supports a lot of blublak's assessment of u, i'm sorry to say.

some of us can put aside the less pleasant (for us) aspects of your board persona because we enjoy other aspects of that persona. u cannot do the same, it seems, but that is your prerogative.

I did specifically say that it was MOST boardites that support BG's homophobia (and not unexpectedly as I accept that it is the predominant way of thinking in Jamaica) as a way to show that there were/are exceptions. You know who you are so don't let my omission trouble you.

I commend the moderators and Xavier for permitting the homophobic posts, the insults and other things that might justifiably been blocked and the posters banned as a result of not following the rules

Allowing those things to be printed permits valuable insight into how people think deep down. It is through unguarded and uncensored posts that we can often get to the true character of people and we can get to know these people far better than we can with carefully controlled conversations.

Respect. Your post is most thoughtful and I certainly agree that I am not the most diplomatic person when it comes to expressing my opinions and everyone offended is justified in their being offended.

That said, having spent the last 45 years involved in observation and study of socio-economic-political issues in depth which has involved listening to right wing radio for about 15 years, reading, watching and listening to the various media from right to left,
participating in anti-war (since Vietnam) , women''s rights, gay rights and civil rights movements since the late 60's, debating on J'cans.com and elsewhere for over 10 years, I believe I have a far better grasp on the reality of these things than do 99% of the populations of both Jamaica and the United States.

As for those studies that show that the right and the socially backward refuse to be swayed by facts, that's just my experience here and elsewhere proven to be true.

Yes, we on the left (not liberal but left) are also guilty of that same sort of thing but on a far, far lower level.

As I've said before, truth does have a left bias on subjects that involve economic, politics, sociological, racial and any other topic covered by the very small left media.

It's certainly no secret that when challenged I most often have referred those who doubt what I claim to be true to read what is to be found at ZNET and from people like Noam Chomsky. On many occasions I have challenged any and all to find anything not true at ZNET and in the ten years I have been participating here, not one person has been able to do so.

Here's my point; the overwhelming majority of people on the board, in Jamaica, in the U.S. get their news and information from the corporate media. A good number get their info almost exclusively from Fox/Faux News and a few mostly from right wing radio as is evident from their wording and views.

How many posters have taken my recommendation and the time to go to ZNET or like sites on a regular basis to counter the lies and half truths they have absorbed from the corporate media ?

I suspect it is very few.

For a great number of reasons including the daily struggle to survive, lack of intellectual curiosity, lack of time, that overwhelming percentage of people have no interest in looking any deeper into socio-politico issues than the very shallow degree to which these subjects are presented by the media they chose to watch/read/listen to.

I know for a fact that most articles that I used to post went largely unread not only because they tended to be deep rather than entertaining but more so because they almost always tend to contradict the more popular and erroneous thinking.

Again this may be considered by many or most to be condescending but you need only look at the political races in both countries to see just how low a common denominator is required to hold the public's attention.

As Jah Yout pointed out, it is all just the way that the minds and actions of the masses of people are controlled by those few thousand at the very top of the economic pyramid who own the media.

I have always pointed out this ignorance and mental slavery and doing so is and always intended as a wake up call. I admit that I often lack the patience and tact to couch these facts in ways that are comfortable for the receiver.

Jamaicans.com forums have always been a very fair reflection of the society at large and this includes a majority of people who have been brainwashed since birth to accept what is unacceptable from belief in non-existent gods to a society and economic system wherein a few thousand people control more wealth than the hundreds of millions of poor and near poor.

It is very difficult for me to experience that willful and self-destructive ignorance for some 45 years and not be dismayed and enraged. Hence my often less than diplomatic posts.


Further, I'll just jump right back into the fire here and say that in my ten years here, I have been in error from time to time but if you can come up with more than a handful of instances, I'll be surprised as I have usually pursued the truth to great lengths in almost all debates here.

I leave with what I have always advised to all: Take the time to read ZNET on a regular basis and not once every few months. Getting news and information from the corporate media is disinforming. Simply put, they lie and do so in sneaky, repetitious and incestuous ways that have you believing most of the lies.
And while there are other blogs and websites that will present the truth, ZNET does so across a wide range of topics.
For very hour spent at the corporate media outlets one does need to be inoculated against and /or cured of the disease of lies that infect most of our populations regarding our socio-economic systems.

As has been said, &quot;All that is required for evil to succeed is for us to do nothing.&quot; and haven't we, as a whole been good at doing nothing?

Consider that the overwhelming percentage of the populations in both Jamaica and the U.S. rely on the corporate media, the government and their religion for their beliefs on matters political and social.
Religions are both backward and totalitarian.
Our respective governments have turned out to represent the big money people and not the working people.
The corporate media (basically all media ) is totally unreliable on things dealing with capitalism and foreign affairs and things like the rich-poor gap.

While I read, watch and listen to all of the above sources daily to understand where that overwhelming percentage of people are coming from I depend on sources like ZNET, TomDispatch, The New York Times Examiner which I also read daily to counter the lies and half-truths that the overwhelming majority believe.

This life long habit does in fact make me far more knowledgeable about THE SUBJECT MATTER they cover than anyone on the right, center or liberal.

Very few of the posters or the people in our respective countries take the time to do what I do and as pointed out many times those on the right like Wolfie will not look at the left perspective.


Our respective countries are not in the shape they are in with .001% owning about 80% of everything because the populace is knowledgeable about the whys and hows but because they want to believe what they are told by the government, the media, the rich.

It is not easy to learn the truth and even far less easy to want to know that they have been following lies for most of their lives.

We have two nations of sheep.

The convenient lies are far easier to deal with than the inconvenient truth.

Is there anyone who believes that Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh the New York Times, the Gleaner et al are anywhere near the truth that is to be found at ZNET ?

My time here has shown me that most are incapable of handling the truth.

But you are correct (even broken clocks are correct twice a day) that I often choose to dispense with diplomacy when I post.
Those I offend have already offended me by not only holding positions that result in the immiseration, death and torture of millions of innocents in the world but, in the depths of their ignorance and immorality proudly post their anti-societal beliefs.

I find it hard to be polite to baby killers and if you support the Demcrats or Republicans, the JLP or the PNP or the killer economic system (capitalism) they represent, in my eyes and in the eyes of that very small group of us on the left, you all bear that responsibility.
As said, all that need happen for evil to succeed is for people to do nothing about it.
Most people just don't think about it but the few who do and come out in support of the sytstems do not deserve either respect or civility.

I may lack social skills but unlike most, I am knowledgeable enough to know whence evil comes into the world and responsible enough to tell others, most of whom choose to ignore that information because it makes them uncomfortable.

It is no secret that what I post, what I believe to be true is not believed and is argued against by most posters and would be opposed by most of the people in both countries.
They overwhelmingly believe the lies that kill.

But I know, I'm rude and uncivil to you shining beacons of morality.

Tell me how following capitalism, what the people who lead the capitalist countries tell you and your own mental slavery and laziness is not responsible for millions upon millions of scenes like this.
