Yes their ancestors brutalized our ancestors. How long are we going to dwell on this. It's like if someone lick you dung wid dem cyar....how long fe siddung inna de miggle a de road a bawl? Yest there should be an apology. Yes there should be reparations but are we still going to be bawling about this 100 years from now, 200 years from now, 500 years from now? We need to focus more on the injustices of today and there are many. Look at the conditions in which people in West Kingston are still living, the lack of medical care, etc. ....we should be asking for help in improving those conditions rather than always just focusing on slavery which ended almost 175 years ago.

Anyway this discussion is about what is taking place in Jamaica during Prince Harry's visit. xigaM has another discussion in which we have been talking about whether or not there should have been a visit. He is begging for more people to weigh in over there.

<span style="font-weight: bold"> Prince Harry danced his socks off in blue suede shoes yesterday.</span>

The prince was visiting the Rise Life project in downtown Kingston when he was pulled to his feet by attractive Chantol Dormer.

The 27-year-old royal proved that, unlike most men, he had remarkably good rhythm as he gyrated to a rendition of reggae legend Bob Marley's One Love.
Harry was wearing an eye-wincingly bright pair of £115 Russell and Bromley desert boots.

As the Mail revealed on Tuesday there has already been a rush to snap up the identical light brown pair he has been wearing all week.

Rise Life is an inspirational project for young people in one of the more deprived districts of Kingston, providing learning facilities and a safe haven for young people aged from about 10 years old upwards.

Harry met children and staff participating in a counselling session and viewed some of the centre’s facilities including an IT workshop, before attending a Rise Life party in the courtyard with scores of young people and staff.


Last night Harry attended a black tie state dinner with Prime Minister Mrs Simpson.
In a well-received speech the prince had his audience eating out of his hand with a few jokes in the local patois.
He said: 'I count it a great privilege to be standing here tonight, representing The Queen in Jamaica on her Diamond Jubilee. Her Majesty has asked me to extend her great good wishes to you all, and is sorry that she can't be here - so you're stuck with me... but don't worry, c<span style="font-weight: bold">os every liddle ting gonna be aright!</span> '

why yes, this morning they managed to mention that prior to his visit, the PM of Jamaica talked of getting rid of the monarchy.

i think what she is saying is even if it mean them jus paint the lines on the road from the airport to the roundabout by the GP and plant a few trees him not taking them with him when him gone and it is an improvement that in a general sense benefit Jamaica.

the question about why dem never do it before of any other time is a different question.

Ultimately it is the Jamaican people who must decide if they want to get rid of the monarchy. I hope the government does not decide to do it unilaterally. I am fine with what is decided either way. There are costs involved with dropping the monarchy that are not insignificant that people need to bear in mind such as the cost associated with changing government documents and updating police and military attire. Personally I think this monarchy debate is a side show and would prefer the resources, time and energy be spent on doing something about crime and justice and fixing the economy. Most Jamaicans dont look to the UK anyway but to the US. So it is all window dressing. The PNP seems to excel at majoring in minor things.

i don't think the gov can do it unilaterally..i am led to understand that it requires a referendum
