2012 premiered Monday March 5, at 12 p.m. PST. By noon Thursday, more than 35 million views had registered on YouTube.

<span style="font-weight: bold">With the help of Facebook and Twitter, Jason Russell's documentary has even captured the attention of celebrities including Ryan Gosling, Rihanna, Oprah and Justin Bieber.</span>

The slickly produced 30-minute video follows Russell's efforts since 2006 to raise awareness around the world about Uganda's guerrilla leader Joseph Kony, whose terrifying actions have landed him the top spot of the International Criminal Court's most wanted list. Kony's rebel group has kidnapped thousands of children, turning the boys into child soldiers and the girls into sex slaves.

right, but this documentary provides absolutely nothing new...this information has been on youtube for at least 6 years or more...the world knows about joseph kony and the atrocities that have been going on in uganda & periphery BY ALL SIDES, not just joseph kony...

still smell fishy to me..especially since US troops & specialists (mercenaries?) have landed in the area...
suddenly this white filmmaker made the world take notice? hmmmmm
don't be surprised they find big oil reserves in the area

JY you are reaching when you say the world knew about joseph Kony before this video went viral. I did not know about him before watching the video.

yes I have heard of the LRA before but had no idea of the impact and the atrocity of Joseph Kony and what he has done.

Not for nothing this video has educated the up-coming generation. As Rich and Kia mentioned I too was introduced to this because of teenagers posting and discussing it on facebook.

So regardless of what sinister reasons there are supposedly behind this video it had IMO done a great service in educating a youth of today.

Yes but what this documentary is doing is making people <span style="font-weight: bold">do something</span> about the Kony situation.

you are right, this is nothing new (to some people), however, the Director went on a PR campaign that seemed to be doing quite a job at raising awareness, plus throw in some celebrities and wham. nice formula to have.

how sad is it that this is nothing new to some people (or the world as JY says) and yet Joseph Kony has been allowed by all those people who know about it/him to continue on doing what he has been doing since the 80's with not peep from ALLLLLLL those people in the know.
