Also there was a boat with the Jamaican flag in the river pageant....and some Jamaican children were in the choir to sing the new Commonwealth anthem, Anyone know anything about this? Did we send horse to the horse pageant?

n his message, Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Glendon Harris, said even though Jamaica is currently looking at replacing the Monarchy, “our current Constitutional arrangements state that Her Majesty the Queen is the Head of State in Jamaica, represented by the Governor- General.&quot;

“And, as we simultaneously celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee with our counterparts in the lighting of four beacons here in the county of Cornwall, let us not forget our progress in the last 60 years, even as we also celebrate our own milestone of 50 years as an Independent nation,” the Mayor said.

Arguing that the moment should be used for forgiveness and reconciliation between individuals and communities, Mr. Harris called for continued growth for the nation. “In this spirit of reconciliation and growth, the people of the County of Cornwall and in particular, the City of Montego Bay, congratulate the Queen on this her Diamond Jubilee, confident that the relationship that exists between the two countries will go from strength to strength in the years to come,” he said.

Sir Patrick And Lady Allen For Diamond Jubilee

Their Excellencies Governor General Sir Patrick and Lady Allen left the island yesterday to participate in Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee celebration that starts today and ends on June 6 in London, England.

Speaking with The Gleaner before their departure yesterday, Lady Allen said they have been invited to a number of events for the celebration as well as a reception with High Commissioner Aloun Assamba tomorrow to introduce her to the diaspora.

On Sunday, they attend a parade of 1,000 boats on The Thames. for the river pageant.

On Monday, Sir Patrick and Lady Allen will be among guests at the reception and Diamond Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace, featuring a number of international artistes representing at least five of Her Majesty's six decades on the throne.

And, on Tuesday, they will be at the service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral, followed by a reception for foreign ministers at Lancaster House and later, tea with The Queen.

Lady Allen expressed pleasure at the invitation and said she had received several good wishes from Jamaicans to pass on to Prince Harry who visited the island earlier this year. They return home on Wednesday

More than 1,000 boats sailed down the Thames in a flotilla tribute to Queen Elizabeth II's 60 years on the throne that organisers are calling the biggest gathering on the river for 350 years.
