They had a layover in Miami in those days. Going to England took longer - they stop at Idewild (sp) airport (now JFK) and it was a long flight via Pan Am Clipper. Going by the banana boat to England in the '50's took 3 weeks as they made stop in Trinidad, Barbados and other islands to pick up most bananas of course. The one way ticket cost 99 pounds it was more on Pan Am. In those early days people could not afford to go back to JA sometimes for 10 years. If you left your wife back home by the time you return she breed and have 1 or 2 kids. Some people never returned - dem dash rockstone behind them when they were leaving. </div></div>


i guess that would explain the expression &quot; yuh a look plane fare or yuh a look england fare&quot; use to say someone is selling and item for way more than its worth/cost.
