Have you all seen</span> … well – let me back up – I know the answer is 'no' because nobody, it seems, is watching Oprah's Network. <span style="font-size: 8pt"> <span style="font-style: italic">(Magic Johnson, please, o please tell me ur taking notes) </span></span>

Anyway – she recently went to India, repeatedly insulted the peeps and now nearly the entire nation is wishing hail and brimstone upon her.

She eats dinner with a family in India and as the meal begin says along the lines of: <span style="font-style: italic">'I heard Indian people eat with their hands still'</span>

How do you think it sounds – is it insulting?

Seems that 1 little word - STILL - did her in. As tho Indians have 'still' not evolved?

I very much like how the husband corrects her!!!!

Personally, I don't think she WENT to India with a malicious bone in her body BUT, I can see how the people would feel insulted.

Especially after she keeps insulting them when she visits the small home of another family! I wont even bother going into that one.

1.after a while the rice did just look plaka plaka and wety wety plastered all over his hands and mouth

2. it was tekking him too long to eat and we had to get back to work.

I actually enjoyed the segment and I cannot see what exactly she did wrong?
She actually confirmed (and was corrected on), some prior research and we got a chance to see how Indians prepare and sit down to eat their own food.
If this is what they are showing on OWN I might have to make and effort to see the clips.

Tuffy - people alllll over the world eat with their hands - Africa, Middle East, other Asian countries. It's not unusual and it's not uncultured.

The Indian community felt that was how Oprah looked at it.

Anyway - that wasn't the only incident. There were other situations that she remarked upon that, well - she coulda handled differently.

And di Chinese STILL are some ah di loudest soup slurpers around, so what? Is fi dem culture. Oprah need tuh visit more ah di common people more often, fi stay in touch wid reality. Nat every culture run by American standards.

Wan ting mi can sey is, dat dem usually wi wash dem hands before dem nyam wid ie. Cant sey dat fi ah lot ah dem in her so-called modern world.

I think it was expected that Oprah wouldn't express surprise that Indians &quot;still&quot; eat with their hands.

And you can tell it was felt as a slight. Listen to how the husband corrected her.

Oprah has traveled to many places in Africa, where we &quot;still&quot; eat with &quot;our&quot; hands.

Gimme a break - when I get my hair braided in Harlem, all the ladies take a break at noon - pull out lunch sit around on the floor and eat it by hand.

Like I said, I know Oprah didn't MEAN harm in any way shape or form - but I can see how people would feel insulted - ESPECIALLY after she visited the other family and marveled and QUESTIONED, how they could be happy living in such a small place. It comes off as ugly or dumb American. Sorry - it just does.

I hate to say this. Proper use of knife and fork is not an American (<span style="font-weight: bold">at least USA</span>), standard.
Generally most USA born and raised folks do not practice the proper use of flatware.
There many times just one step away from using their bare hands and many times resort to using their bare hands.
It just that you will rarely find and family sitting down to eat in a formal/semi-formal setting without flatware as standard tools .....i.e. the hands as the <span style="font-weight: bold">rule</span> not the <span style="font-weight: bold">exception</span>.
