not a bad idea, gen. little challenge in that the closest stable is about 40 mins away and mi no ha cyar, tho i hope to resolve the transport issue by next week. there's a mounted cop stable near downtown toronto, maybe she can work out something there.

I saw the Jamaican flag for an instant and was surprised since I wasn't expecting a Jamaican in swimming. Alia did well by us, made us very proud and will be a role model for our future swimmers..

One indication of the value of sponsorship was evident in the contribution she gained, <span style="font-size: 14pt">however minimal, from the new high-tech textile swimsuit she was given </span>in which to compete at these Olympics. Both herself and her manger suggested that this was of value in this London campaign. &quot;It is a little easier to stay on top of the water in that suit as it adds a small degree of flotation,&quot; she told the media in a post race interview.

There can't be many who would not by now concede that she has the ability to become Jamaica's first global medallist in swimming given the quality of competition she now craves.

The reality is that Alia has always been seen with greater potential in the 200 metres more than in the 100 metres breaststroke. Hence it is natural for many to feel that whatever she has achieved in the 100 she should be capable of bettering in the 200. The reality, however, may be a bit different. It is going to be extremely difficult, although not impossible, in this Olympic competition for her to get back in such a strong medal-challenging situation. We already know that as one of the competitors who achieved the lower 'B' standard for entry, she is expected to be placed in a heat that has slower or no ceded swimmers. <span style="font-weight: bold">Hence, it will not be enough to just win her heat, she will have to win big. To do this, she will need to swim her own race while totally ignoring others in the pool in order to achieve the qualifying time for the semi final round</span>. Setting your own pace in a race is never easy going. <span style="font-size: 14pt">Nevertheless, the world knows now that this is one Jamaican warrior that has nerves of steel</span> which should again be in evidence today at the Aquatic Centre here in London.

Top Jamaican swimmer Alia Atkinson, who yesterday finished fourth in the 100m breaststroke final inside the Aquatic Centre at the Olympics here, is calling for greater support for Jamaican swimmers, under-lining that without assistance, she will not be able to compete at the next Games in 2016.

Atkinson, who barely missed out on becoming Jamaica's first swimming medallist at the Olympic Games, after her 1:06.93 placed her level with Janelle Atkinson as the best-placed Jamaicans at the Olympic Games,<span style="font-weight: bold"> says the island has lost many talented swimmers because of a lack of financial backing.</span>

&quot;There are a lot of swimmers that are there (Jamaica), but when they get to 17 or 18 years old, they start to falter a little bit,&quot; Atkinson stated, referring to Jamaica's 50m freestyle record holder.

<span style="font-weight: bold">&quot;That's what happened to Natasha Moodie. She should have been here for the 50m freestyle sprint. She is the national record holder but because she didn't have the financial support she couldn't be here,&quot; said Atkinson.</span>


Atkinson finished behind gold medallist Ruta Meilutyte from Lithuania, who won in 1:05.47, American Rebecca Soni, 1:05.55, and Japan's Satomi Suzuki, 1:06.46.

&quot;If you want me to get that medal, I need financial support to do it,&quot; Atkinson said.

&quot;I really love to swim for Jamaica and would love to continue to the 2016 Olympics. I want to get that medal that I promised many years ago, but I do need the help,&quot; she pleaded.

Atkinson was open to spending more time in Jamaica in training and conducting clinics, but again stressed that the support was absolutely necessary.

&quot;It would depend on the competition. I would be able to train at home probably a couple days at a time, but that would depend on the coaching staff and the financial support. But, hopefully, in the future, I can come back, do more clinics and practices with the swimmers and it would be good for Jamaica's swimming,&quot; said Atkinson, who will now turn her focus to the 200m breaststroke and 50m freestyle.

Following her impressive showing in the 100m breaststroke, Atkinson will approach her upcoming assignments with renewed confidence, starting with tomorrow morning's 200m breaststroke heats, which begin at 10:43 a.m. (4:43 a.m. Jamaica time).

&quot;I don't know what to expect. I was 17th heading into the 100m breaststroke and I'm fourth coming out of it, so it only puts everything else into perspective and just tells me to give it my all and I'll never know where I can reach,&quot; said Atkinson.

Well, the real Jamaican duo haven't set foot on the Olympic track in London but their look-alikes, Christopher Vassell, and Kimberly Walker, did take the top honours in the short sprint at Marathon Insurance Brokers' first-ever Sidewalk Olympics yesterday.
