Man I can do without some of the <span style="text-decoration: line-through">noise</span> music in the love story section. It was bad enough the first time.

Never heard of most of those white bands. Who is the rapper? Never seen him before either.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I am watching it again.I loved the pastoral scenes, the diversity and multiculturalism, the way in which they involved children and youth. There was just enough humour - the Queen skydiving, James Bond and Mr. Bean. There was music for ever taste. I loved the depiction of the Caribbean immigrants arriving. Also, was pleased the included Millie Small and some ska.

I was truly moved by seeing Mohammed Ali. David Beckham coming along the Thames on that boat looked so incredibly hot. I never realized what an attractive man he is.

The way in which the Olympic rings were created and the way that sparks flew from them was electrifying. The fireworks and the way the petals the children were carrying were lit and raised to form the cauldron gave me goosebumps.

It was wonderful that the children brought the pedals for the cauldron and the youth lit the cauldron. I am just watching that part again now. When the stadium and London burst into fireworks and they showed the Olympic highlights that was fabulous. It cost $40 Million and used a ton of volunteers

Nicely done. I look forward to the games.

loved it...wondered how it was going to come together having watched Jon Stewart skewer the proposal ....it was really great especially di part of the WIndians arriving off the ships, suitcase in hand

I heard that this young lady is Vivian Blake daughter. Yes that Vivian Blake of Shower Posse fame.

And glad you liked the ceremony. I caught the highlights but for me it was just aight. Beijing opening ceremony was just...just unforgettable. The precision drumming at the beginning just grabbed you and pulled you in. The London Olympic organizers said they weren't going to try to outdo Beijing, and boy, they weren't kidding.

I watched about 30 minutes got bored then went and did something else....Read science fiction book while listening to some jazz....I did see the queen was surprised her maj let them film her. She did act in plays in WWII.. But it dove tailed well with what Kenneth Kaunda, Robert Mugabe, and other great Africans said of her... Like it or not we Jamaicans should take note that we are part of the Bond creation myths...

I did like the home nations anthems...The scotish and irish have personal sentiment to me...)

I love Flower of Scotland even with its anti English sentiment.. Celebrating victory at Banneckburn...so the children in Edinburgh castle singing it was a treat .. it is less than 50 years old and it is probably the only anthem in the world that is acknoweldged by popular sentiment not a political commity.... And the fact they inter cut it with scenes from rugby through which it was popularised....(I better not mention the role it had in its development by the Scottish rugby team tour of Apartheid south Africa...)

And O' Danny Boy being sung on the Giants Causeway...My father who had a voice like Paul Robson sang it to me as a child and it would make me stop crying.. the first time I heard it was I was sick in hospital my sister had just died, it is my first memory... so it makes the eyes sting every time I hear it.. But the geology of the giants cause may as well as the crystalography appeals to the scientist in me...

What I see it did show the Britain that I like, the inclusiveness...That Beharry was in the village cricket team.. (He is from Greneda and won the Victoria Cross). So cricket that prevented according to John Major the blooddy ness of the French Revolution spreading to england...


There was the moment where a white mother got out a mini and took her son with her into a house.. The son was multi ethnic....I thought oh oh, our cyan get a man brigade will get on their hobby horse...

What I saw was a commentary on Britian that it recognises in it self that the old empire paradigm has shifted not the mighty English.... Kenneth Branagh doing Isanbard Brunel reciting Shakespeare encapsulated the Britain I like...

A man from Northern Ireland, playing the role of a Great Engineer who was the son of migrants reciting the world greatest playwright who may have been the son of Italian Jewish Immigrants from Scily.... The success of migration.....By the way the life of Isambard Kingdom Brunel was in the reading books our grandfathers in Jamaica had in school. And after I stopped going to primary school, I learnt to improve my reading on my fathers copy.. He is one of my heros... The man designed a propeller in the 1830's that modern technology can only improve on 9 %!!!)

I dont know if it was me but the enclosed circle reminded me of Old Sarum on the Salisbury plain...(or the layout of a Roman Marching Camp!) a subtle subversive twist to acknowledge a bit of prehistory!)

And despite what I some might think... I like the Song Jerusalem for what it is..Itself the mystism of Blake, his role in art, and his flavour of baggy dropping....apopularised as a tribute to the fallen of WWI. I had grand uncles who died . I like the Scoratian nature of it, the hidden depth, the cleverness of the language, the claritof the sentiment...It pulled it out of the right and into were it should be the center....Each takes

The fact that Mosely could sing it, the NF and the BDL sing it the British Communist can sing it, the church can sing it.. again comes back to the theme It is in the first verse a tale of migration as a catalyst for social development.. Shows it is again a multifaseted britishness..It is not simply a christian hymn. And it is something that needs to be recognised and acknowleged,...

Pagentry bores me so after about 30 minutes I revert to type and did something else!...

Just for the record the authourties are providing 15 condums for each athlete in the village .. (in Sydney they ran out of condoms in the games village!!!!)

This video uploaded by the Olympic Committee is blocked in Canada. Maybe it will show elsewhere. I have yet to see a video of the opening from the beginning. The few that have been posted area all getting blocked on Youtube. Bummer. Come on CTV...get with the programme. Man this is frustrating.

Now on to the ceremony itself: we begin with Elgar‘s “Nimrod,” soundtracking a village green scene, complete with maypole, ferris wheel and fake Glastonbuy Tor. There’s a little smidge of the Radio 4 shipping forecast (a beloved moment of British broadcasting) and a fake sea, made with blue material stretched over sections of the audience.

That’s just the preamble… before you know it we’re hurtling down the river Thames, from its source, past Mole and Ratty from the Wind in the Willows, past the British sporting heroes of the past, whether playing cricket or rowing, and down the Thames to a fragmentary soundtrack of Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s “Variations,” the Sex Pistols‘ “God Save The Queen,” and others, before the final countdown, courtesy of Underworld.

Then Bradley Wiggins, Britain’s first winner of the Tour De France (and a proper mod geezer) rings the Olympic bell. A choirboy sings “Jerusalem” and the village (which looks uncannily like The Shire, Lord of the Rings fans) comes to life. Beekeepers attend to their bees, while over in Northern Ireland a choir has a bash at “Danny Boy” (probably in honor of the show’s director Danny Boyle… probably not),

Then it’s “Flower of Scotland” and <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 20pt">“Guide Me Oh Thou Great Redeemer”</span> </span>from Scotland and Wales, respectively, while Kenneth Branagh (or someone who looks a lot like him) brings the Industrial Revolution to the Shire in the form of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. A mixed blessing, then.
