Olympics athletics: Asafa Powell out of Games with thigh injury

Asafa Powell will not help defend Jamaica's 4x100m crown at the London Olympics because of a thigh injury.

Powell injured himself during the men's 100m final and limped home last as Jamaican team-mates Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake took gold and silver.

The 29-year-old's manager Paul Doyle said it would take &quot;about three weeks to recover from the strain&quot;.

Bolt, Blake, Nesta Carter and Michael Frater are now the likely quartet for Saturday's sprint relay.

The foursome won the title at last year's World Championships in the absence of Powell, who was again struggling with injury, setting a new world record in the process.

Powell ran the final leg in Beijing's &quot;Bird's Nest&quot; stadium in 2008 to help Bolt secure his historic third gold of the Games.

The injury means Powell will not contest any more races in 2012 but he plans to return for the 2013 season.

Tell them yah, Asafa.

We hold our athletes to such high esteem .. Their win is ours and their loss... we feel it too. Asafa will come back strong and powerful but not for this Olympics.

I feel Asafa pain.. I was backing him because I thought he deserved to win the gold...

I am concerned about not having him as we could have rested bolt or blake in the eary rounds of the 4 x 100... maybe we can use that young lad Weir in the first round ?????

in the 200 m ladies Alyson Felix looks relaxed.... and good... Sorry as it pains me.. but Sanya Richards looked like she had too much left in the tank.... Mi ah root fi VCB.... Mi just lub ar!!!
