I can’t do but one thing at a time?
Well, I have not, but I have certainly heard plenty of men say it. I have heard it from men from all walks of life in a variety of situations.
Example 1: I was on the phone with my dad one morning, and he put me on hold for a moment. When he got back, he said he had to make coffee. Meanwhile, I’m standing there pouring water into the pot with my left hand, spooning beans into the grinder with my right, and cradling the phone between my shoulder and ear. He drinks Maxwell House. Did he really have to put the phone down to drop two scoops of coffee in the filter?
Example 2: A male co-worker and I were meeting to go over some open issues with a project. I noticed that three additional issues were related to the one we were going over and commented that we could close those as well. He looked flustered and said he couldn’t do but one thing at a time. I said what to do you mean, you’re a project manager, why not? (I should add that we have a history of going back and forth.)
I am serious though. What’s the problem? Why does it seem that men struggle with multitasking? Is it genetic or are they just full of it?
