Of course not, gas prices have doubled, health insurance has risen 50%, my wages have been cut, state sales tax has risen along with the property tax and higher auto registration fee and my house is worth less...and that's if I could even sell it?...Oh, and food prices? HAVE ANY OF YOU COMPARED THE COST OF YOUR FOOD BILL FROM JUST ONLY A YEAR AGO!?!

What United States are the above people living in? I need to move to that one!

Are any of the above people independent of government assistance? I'm not trying to embarass or insult anyone, but only putting things into perspective. <span style="font-weight: bold">The middle class that are not entitled to government assistance, we are the ones most affected by Obama's failed policies, or should I say Washington's failed policies, because every politician regardless of political affiliation is to blame.</span> THINGS ARE HORRIBLE! IT SUCKS!

I live in a republican controlled local government and my local taxes have gone up considerably. My house is worth more than it was 4 yrs ago because I purchased it 14 before the bubble so am ok with that. By the way the stock crash of 2008 &amp; the mortgage crisis developed in the previous (aka Bush administration)

Gas prices need to go up more . Less subsidies for big oil and move them into projects for alternative energy. Oh yes we have solar panels &amp; had an electric car, just waiting on the next electric car to be built.

Food prices are going up due to the effects of climate change on crops. The extreme weather in the food belt has generated scarcity of goods causing the price to rise.

Yes we are independent of govt assistance.. Are you? Oh no.. you are a firefighter therefore our taxes pay for your services along with govt subsidies to the fire dept.

It will be interesting to see how President Obama adresses this type of question in regards to Americans in general in the debates. It is almost a trick question, answer no and he appears weak and inept, answer yes and there is a plethora of stats that can make him look out of touch, namely an unemployment rate that remained over 8%.

My view from outside the USA looking in is that Obama succeded in stopping the bleeding, the patient remains critical but at least he is stabalized.

While I will answer that I am doing the same as I was 4 years ago, not considering a little bit more hustle, I can attest to the fact that the people that surround me in the Borderland would say they are doing worse.
