I have been following this thread and I appreciate the discussion. I especially like the honesty. Like many of you I wondered the same thing about the forums but then I see traffic figures and hear from people who visit the forums as lurkers. I do believe more people are interacting with FB and Twitter and it affecting forums overall. One of the main reason for that is because they can access it on their mobile device even if it is blocked at work. It convenient. Currently the version of the software is not the best for mobile. I want to address that in the future and am looking into how to do it seamlessly.

My opinion is that forums and FB/Twitter are very different social networking tools. Both have their advantage (mobile) and dis advantages. One of the major dis-advantages is you cannot really express an opinion in facebook or twitter because it is a SOAPBOX where people know who you are. People are not "real". In forums you may hide behind a user name but to an extent the opinions are real so you get to know a true person when you meet in person.

I want to first address the malware issue. It has been an ongoing battle for a while. Some of the malware has been through ads displayed on the site. Even though the companies who serve the ads have filters developers find ways to beat it. Thanks to many of you I have been able to find the ads and get them DE-activated. This is not where most of the malware issue originate. Most of the malware issues are coming from graphics and embedded code in posts. Trying to find them and disable them is a challenge. It is also one of the disadvantages of a forum. Again if you come up on something please sent it to me.

The site was having some issues and has had quite a bit of down time. There were some programs we had on the site that was sucking bandwidth and causing memory leaks. We are finding them and optimizing (replacing some). For example the photo gallery we had was 12 years old and the software was a resource hog. We recently had to migrate it to new software. There were over 2000 pictures that had to be migrated. Trying to stabilize and minimize the down time as best I can.

Again thanks for the insight as this is valuable information on the direction we need to take the "forums" and the site.

PS: Now keep in mind there is a Jamaicans.com website outside the forums with articles and other tools...

oh dat one was laid at my feet too....i am supposed to be jealous of a woman who is over 10yrs my elder , saves to make trips to a country i call home, etc etc etc....funny ting is she use to pm me at times even after i took on the issue of trip reports n wat was too much info,,,,not saying we were friends because i have always said i naw look frenz but people to remember yaad wid...but as u can see from some posts on here i was cussed out for being jealous of her especially ...the usual of me not having lots of sex etc etc etc...wat always struck me as funny was if i was decrepit because i had too likkle sex, wat was it people usually seh bout smaddy who was having too much n wid people dem barely met...but my detractors neva had sense to think out the other side of wat dem was leaving unsaid...dwl dwl dwl

don't know if i am blamed solely fi dat one but can name a few who laid it at my feet by pm n in posts

I concur with these two statements.. I like the anninimity of the user name...
on here, this is a virtue...On face book I am astonished by the personal information that is displayed and shared...

I would add I would expect the moderators to protect this virtue.. on occasion it has not happened..

Wow!! I also took exception with some of Marilyn's posts and photos (with men, vulgar dancing, etc) but I also felt that she posted a lot of other content that was interesting and a breathe of fresh air. Like you, I also communicated with her via PM and felt we had a lot in common. We are Black professional women who have raised children on our own after a divorce. This definitely presents it's challenges and I guess we all find ways of socializing and letting off steam. I felt sick when someone was so mean to her. It was totally uncalled for. After all, this is just a discussion board and to try to run a sole supporting woman off a discussion board by trying to ruin her livelihood is so evil.

The blame should not be laid with those who were honest enough to express concerns. It's the one who skin teeth and then stab you in the back I have found one has to watch out for.

Anyway, I hope that Marilyn is doing well and finding happiness in her life.
