I don't know. I haven't seen what he calls President Obama.

While we are at it...I don't understand why people like President Obama and Alicia Keyes who grew up with White parents with no involvement from the Black father have an African-American accent. Can someone break that down for me?

I don't have a Jamaican accent because while both of my parents are Jamaican I was raised in a community that did not have many Jamaicans.

I had a Jamaican accent when I stepped off the plane and, like now, I was very chatty. I vaguely remember talk of sending me to a speech clinic as I had trouble pronouncing certain sounds...eg. mixing up ch and sh and I don't know what else. I don't know when I stopped speaking patois,

I asked my Mom about this a couple of months ago and apparently I still had a Jamaican accent when I went to kindergarten. After that, I gradually started talking like de Babylonian Backra people dem.

So how come people like Alicia Keyes and President Obama who did not grow up around Black folks now talk like African Americans? Another example would be Kobe Bryant

Anyway, interesting story...a Jamaican lady with whom my family eventually became great friends, opened a boarding house for new immigrants a few doors away from us when I was about 9 or 10. A lot of Jamaican families from England would board with her until they got settled.

A Jamaican family with 2 girls who were born in England. The family moved from England to Canada and stayed with this lady. They had really thick British accents. Now they are grown, one is an actress in Hollywood, not a trace of a British accent...they have Canadian accents. They never did have Jamaican accents and last I saw them, they still couldn't pull off an authentic Jamaican accent. I haven't seen her or her sister in years.

Interesting, now in addition to being an an actress, she is now an accent coach. Guess she has done some work on accents. Good for her. It would be great to hear if she can do an authentic Jamaican accent now.

No search in the world could answer THAT question. I have my own theories. Giancarlo Esposito would be another example....raised in Italy and other parts of Europe by an Italian father and African American mother...and listen to him now.

I know what happened in his case. They moved to the US and he was looking forward to going to high school as the high school was half Black and half Italian (like him) and he figured it would be a blast...he got beat up from both sides and had to adapt and fit in.
