I "walked into" a black friend's FB wall to a discussion going on about Alan Keys. A female friend of his (whom I don't know) had just said (about Keys), "Negro belongs in the cotton fields with a whip on his back!!!!" <--- That's a direct quote. OMG!!
Now, this friend doesn't talk like that. He doesn't think like that. He doesn't teach such things to his 5 children. I know these things for fact! He's just NOT LIKE THAT!!
But I was SHOCKED! Had *I* said that ^, I would have been accused of racism faster than you could say the word (and rightfully so).
Now, I'm uncomfortable participating in the discussion on his FB wall. Am I wrong? Am I being thin-skinned? What should I have said?
All I said was that that was too much for me, that it was rude, that I was shocked, and that I was out of there and 'bye... and I left. I did post about my shock at the whole incident on my own FB wall, asking my friends of color to respond to this.
(so many of unnu will have seen this by now on FB and will know which of my friends was involved)
