Citizenship means nothing in this country when it as well as the US and UK have deported ppl to Jamaica who were born in Canada, the US & UK or had citizenship.

I didn't know of cases were people who were born in Canada, the US and the UK with Jamaican parents were deported. I know for sure that citizenship really means nothing and they can get de-naturalize you and ship you off whenever they like if they really want you.

I saw the movie with my Mom and my son. It's powerful. I wonder if the don character was based on Dudus? It was creepy the way he would hold prayer meeting before going out and killing people.

Jamaican actor Paul Campbell (Dancehall Queen, Third World Cop, The Lunatic, Shottas) played the slime bucket uncle. The character he played was a nasty piece of work...real pond scum. I haven't seen him in years and didn't even recognize him. I have typically seen him in comedy. He did a really convincing performance.

Here is the second case I have heard of involving someone from Scotland deported:

Former BlackBerry executive deported for drunken tantrum on flight

Former BlackBerry executive George Campbell has been deported to his native Scotland after an infamous incident of rowdy drunkenness on an Air Canada flight.
Campbell and fellow former corporation vice-president Paul Alexander Wilson ended up forcibly restrained after setting out from Toronto to Beijing on business for Research In Motion (now BlackBerry) on Nov. 28, 2011.
The pair pleaded guilty to mischief and were ordered to pay $38,878 restitution each after their boozy antics forced the flight to land in Vancouver. They spent two days in custody and both were fired.
Despite their guilty pleas, they sought to appeal their conviction and have the restitution order lifted. The B.C. Court of Appeal turned them down earlier this year.
Campbell, then 45, was born in Scotland and in Canada on a work permit at the time of the incident. His monthly salary was $12,000. The father of three had no criminal record.
Wilson, then 38, was also born in Scotland, but had permanent residency status in Canada. The married father of one earned $10,000 monthly and also had no criminal record.
“Mr. Campbell was deported from Canada, but has obtained work in Scotland in a similar position to his employment at RIM,” the B.C. Court of Appeal decision states. “Mr. Wilson found short term contract work with a Taiwanese company.”
In a statement of facts entered in court at the time of their conviction, court heard the two men were drinking before and during the flight, and downed sleeping pills to help them sleep.
“At some point during the flight, Mr. Campbell began singing and banging on his seat,” the ruling says. “At one point, he was lying on his stomach and kicking the floor, much like a child in a temper tantrum.”
Things only got worse, according to the court document.
“Mr. Wilson attempted to get out of his seat when, instead, he fell forward into a flight attendant and passenger,” the court document states. “Both men were described as unruly and belligerent, yelling and swearing at passengers and crew alike. At one point, Mr. Wilson pushed a flight attendant.”
Soon, things degenerated from bad to ugly.
“Both men were restrained with plastic restraints,” the court document states.
At this point, the two former executives behaved like wild animals caught in a trap.
“One of them managed to get out of the restraints; and Mr. Wilson appeared to have chewed his way out of the plastic restraints,” the document states. “Tape was used to restrain them.”
The boozy mid-air misadventure was taxing on all involved, the document states.
“The airplane captain said he had never seen anything like this in 38 years of flying,” the document states. “One of the flight attendants took time off work as a result of stress caused to her by the incident.”

He deteriorated to the point where he was a homeless, street person, barefoot and drugged out on crack and he did it convincingly It's based on what happened to a kid who Jennifer Holness, one of the female film-makers knew growing up in Toronto.

Stephan "Steph J" James is an 18 Year old rapper and actor. Stephan was raised in the projects, by his single mother, along with his two brothers. Steph has been influenced by music all throughout his childhood; he began writing and freestyling over popular beats any chance he could get. Stephan's style for constructing insightful lyrics and verses in a creative way, quickly gave him the reputation of a genius lyricist at a very young age. After teaming up with skilled producer Chad "Negus" Moore, both individuals began to cultivate and build their eclectic sound. After releasing his first EP titled "WHO AM I", in the first year Stephan has gone on to many collaborations and live performances opening for the likes of Sean "P.Diddy" Combs, YMCMB's Tyga, and A-Game.
Aside from music, acting is a huge part of Stephan's foundation. In December 2009, Stephan was signed by one of the most profound talent agents; Norbert Abrams; who has also represented such notable actors as Aubrey "Drake" Graham, and Nina Dobrev. If society has caused them to screw up then I agree with you. Society need to deal with them on their own terms, not ship them off. But if they are led astray by lack of proper parenting then why should society be held responsible and have to pay for their incarceration and possible rehabilitation, especially if they are not even a citizen here.

I don't think either of our views are going to change on this. I respect your opinion but I think we will just have to agree to disagree.

as a teen/early 20's he got in trouble with the law so was unable to qualify for citizenship.

Over the years he got into more trouble with the law and was eventually deported to Jamaica leaving behind his parents, family and kids.

He straightened up in Jamaica, had a real job (night watchman) and was murdered on the job.

Although I went to the Shottas party at the film festival, I never did see the movie. At the time, it didn't seem to be the type of film that would appeal to me. Maybe I was wrong.

Well that does come into it in some cases. Don't want to get into it in detail as no matter how general I am, this is a small community and I don't want to risk breaching confidentiality and someone being recognized. Suffice it to say, I have seen some highly irresponsible Jamaican parents whose choices and refusal to cooperate and when help was offered and available did cause their children to get into difficulty. In those cases, the parents should have been held accountable.

The real root of the problem is that this is a very racist society and even with very strong parenting, it is very tough for Black kids here in Canada. Everything in this society conspires to undermine a Black person's self confidence and self-esteem. Even when highly qualified and hard working, obstacles are placed ion one's way. It is tough to advance past unqualified White people. Some young people just stop trying and fall by the wayside. It is a sad state of affairs. Kids do make mistake but when they are White it is call the parents to pick them up and send them home with a warning. When they are Black, no one is going to cut them any slack.

Canadian-born man faces deportation: Can you be deported from Canada if you’re born here? Apparently.

It is not unusual for foreign-born people living in Canada as Permanent Residents who run into trouble with the law face to face immigration troubles, and even less unusual for them to face deportation from Canada if the crimes are severe enough.
What is unusual is for a person who was born in Canada – and has an Ontario birth certificate to prove it – to face deportation.
A man in Ottawa, according to the Montreal Gazette, has been notified that he faces deportation to his parents’ native homeland of India, despite the fact that he was born and raised in Canada according to his birth certificate and passport, does not speak the language and doesn’t know anyone in India.
A life of breaking and entering in his youth and teenage years, the now 20-year-old Deepan Budlakoti eventually obtained his high school diploma and did odd jobs before starting his own successful landscaping and maintenance business. Unfortunately, last year he allegedly attempted to sell a hunting rifle to an undercover police officer and minutes later he was arrested.
In July, Budlakoti received a letter saying he had an upcoming hearing to determine whether he “has the right to enter Canada or whether you are or may become authorized to enter and remain in Canada”.
How can a Canadian-born man face deportation?

The issue? His parents arrived in Canada in the mid-80s and worked for India’s High Commissioner as household staff. The Citizenship Act actually states that if the parents are foreign diplomats or work for their home country when their child is born, that child is not Canadian despite being born in Canada.
According to Canadian law, when someone is born in Canada, born abroad to at least one Canadian-born and Canadian-citizen parent or adopted abroad by a Canadian citizen, they are Canadian. However, the children of foreign-born workers for their home country, such as those working for a diplomat, are not automatically given citizenship. Apparently, this little-known clause makes it possible for that lack of citizenship to be enforced at any time. Disturbingly, it is not at all difficult to imagine a scenario where a friend, family member or even one’s self could find themselves in a similar situation had their foreign-born parents had a different occupation.
So the lesson here is that just because you were born in Canada there are circumstances where you remain vulnerable to deportation. For Canadian Permanent residents, this is a reality that is faced everyday. Stay out of trouble!

Cold as this seems I have little sympathy....Many run wey fi wuk, fi oppertunity ......and these guys in the film had the opportunity ???? I listened to one of the interviews with the fellow who made the film and was struck by the fact that the main man then said something that I have often said on here... in reference to these deportees.. "these are not Jamaican...they are canandian, american,"... yet time and time again we are force feed that they are Jamaican....

I will watch it cause Paul Campbell is in it!
