What happened to the long version of the forum rules we once had. All I am seeing is this.
What is the purpose of a discussion board?

Thank you RichD. This is what I was looking for. Seems clear to me:
Respect the privacy of other members and INDIVIDUALS.
Do not post personal information about them (i.e. Name, addresses, phone numbers, passwords, pictures, family names etc.) without their consent.

No there is still the point about the mischief making and protocol for inviting guests....subjects of news stories.
We have certainly had guests before but no one has ever before taken it upon themselves to drag someone into a discussion in the middle of a discussion to make mischief without clearing this with admins.
Parameters and protocol need to be clarified.
Please don't close until we hear from Xavier.

If it's in the public domain, then by LEGAL definition, it's PUBLIC not private, and - by law - permission is not necessary.Originally posted by Tropicana View PostThe woman stated her name and where she worked. She did not give permission for her contact information to be posted on a bulletin board.
That's ^ how it works. Anybody who knows anything knows that "public figures" (feel free to look up the legal definition of that particular legal term) live in a glass fishbowl, and they themselves know that they give up most rights to privacy when they elect to become "public figures". As an elected official, I can attest to this. And that it's not always pleasant to BE a public figure, but (like everyone else) I knew the deal going into it, and it is what it is.
Only someone ignorant or foolish would pretend that the above truths are not true.
I'm sure you, Tropi, are neither - so it's time to give up the faux Miss Innocence act. It was fun while it lasted, wasn't it?
No one can " drag [a] person into [a] discussion" against his/her consent. That is totally specious.Originally posted by Tropicana View PostSo every time we are discussing anything in the news and someone's nose is out of joint because they don't agree with opinions being stated, it's perfectly okay to drag the person into the discussion and stir up trouble?
There is no point in taking a risk and discussing ANYTHING that involves another person if this is going to be the modus operandi on a going forward basis.
And, btw, J'com is an open, public site on the 'Net; anyone can read what's posted here. (look up the legal definitions of "open website" and "public website" and pertinent law), just as the news sources are also open and public websites on the 'Net. So - while I agree that in the past, I don't recall ever seeing such things happen here, certainly such happenings were always possibilities. Who wouldn't understand the potential ramifications of open posting on the Internet about public figures???
It is. I'm certain that "Tropicana" does not appear anywhere on your birth certificate. No one knows who you really aee or where you live or come from unless you, yourself, have given up the info voluntarily, in posts.Originally posted by Tropicana View PostI thought this was supposed to be a place where people could remain anonymous if they so desire and discuss whatever within the board rules without having to be concerned about having to get into a confrontation or uncomfortable situation with the subject of a news story.
And here's one final but important bit of adviIfce to everyone, not just to you, Tropi: If you aren't willing to "own it" then don't say it on the Internet. <--- This will keep one out of the sort of trouble that you're concerned about, Tropi (getting into any confrontation situation that you don't wish to be involved in).
"Discussion Board" is what this board is, not a "Gossip Board".
Discussion is what this board is supposed to be about, not gossip. If you say/type/post it, then own it and be willing to put your face to it... otherwise it's mere gossip and doesn't belong on a Discussion board.
There's ^ my two cents' worth, anyhow. And it's legally sound.

Yes, it would, RichD. But clearly, Tropi doesn't know about such things as SEO stuff. So she sees a tattletale lurking in every corner rather than comprehending the reality of how it works on the Internet these days.Originally posted by RichD View Postwould that not depend on your search string?
smh in disgust at major ignorance displayed

Remedy, RichD??? NO remedy required - or even appropriate; Tropi has no standing!Originally posted by RichD View Postso what kind of remedy are you seeking?
Remedies are for people who were legally injured. Tropi was not, so she therefore has no legal standing.
Only the subject had any standing, and she clearly didn't feel injured by Lonewolf's action... in fact, she accepted it as the expected result of being a public figure and she said so quite clearly in her email reply to lonewolf!

KUDOS, RichD!!Originally posted by RichD View Posthow would you know if anybody is telling the truth if there is a rule about not posting without permission?
actually yes i would like somebody reaching out to him (or anybody else being trashed..then the trashing would be much more effective if he took the time to respond.
if you want to suss den you should jus invite the lades over for tea.
In fact, I think it bears repeating...
In fact, to keep J'com OUT of legal troubles, it ought to be screamed at some ppl 'til they 'get it'.Originally posted by RichD View Postif you want to suss den you should jus invite the lades over for tea.
This ^ is what should be enforced.Originally posted by RichD View Postif you want to suss den you should jus invite the lades over for tea.
Anyone who posts something should be held to it/ accountable for it. The law certainly will. J'com must if Xavier wishes to remain within the law.

Ahhh,, dahJah! You never shared your private info with her like you have with some of us?Originally posted by Tropicana View PostOf course you do, you don't divulge your identity over there either.
You should've told me not to let on that we know each other for real via FB... <kissteeth>
Well, sorry, but it's too late now, dahJah - the puss is out of her bag! AND long gone - ran off, too... BOAL

Yes, precisely. Did you NOT know that J'com is her playground and she solely arbitrates what goes on here? HOW could you have NOT known this?! kiss teethOriginally posted by lonewolf View PostOh, NOW I see what this is all about. It's about you and your comfort zone according to anonymity.
You were fine behind the same confines of your computer, but now you have deleted your responses in fear of the possibilty of facing the person that you were talking smack about... I GOT IT!
Don't you know how bullies operate, lonewolf? So long as Tropi is anonymous, she will say anything to bully anyone. BUT if that anonymity is perceived by her as torn away (note that I said "perceived as" since that's not the reality of it), she is just as cowardly as any other bully is, when stripped of their sidekicks (in RL) or anonymity (virtual, online)! This isn't a new syndrome, lonewolf - it's called "Internet bullying".
