Yes, I would have to agree, that wainscott stuff I could do without. And I'm not crazy about the tile either, but I do love the clean cut of the vanity.

Pepper, I thought of you the other day when I saw a very beautiful painted glass window, it was incredible!

I like the beige tiles better for a bathroom, I like that they're smaller so probably safer than a wide tile, slip and fall potential...

Okay, your son wants a tropical look?

1. Make your own stained glass window; it's very easy, and you can make it a palm-tree, tropical vegetation, or beach scene. (the tropical vegetation, with large variegated green leaves and bright floral may block outsiders from seeing any silhouettes yet still let in plenty of light)
Use darker shades of greens in the lower third or half of that window, and use the lightest sky colors at neck-height and above.

2. Use medium or lighter gray-green floor tiles. Or celadon green.

3. Use tiles for walls a few shades darker than the floor, but not too dark, so you won't cramp the room.

4. Use one of the low-profile toilet fixtures. Bright white will look nice and crisp and clean, but a light green (no gray in this color!) will also look good - and bright/clean-looking.
Above the low-profile toilet, on the wall, hang good fake greenery hanging from a basket. (best to use one of those angled-cut baskets that's flat on the back to the wall, and has a lower front lip than at the rear)

5. Sink - try a large pedestal sink, preferably with a scallop- or seashell-shaped bowl. Mine is an overly-large American Standard, widely oval (side-to-side) in shape, and has inset scallop-shaped soap depressions, one on each side of the hot and cold taps --- and best of all, it was only $99 on sale at Home Depot about 7 months ago!
Match the sink to the toilet - color. (white toilet to white sink, same-shade-green toilet to same-shade-green sink)

6. Get the largest oval mirror you can find, or have custom-made (not at all expensive), and see if you prefer it hung horizontally or bertically best. Ask him how he likes it best. hang it over the sink.

7. Hang some lucite shelves on either side of the mirror - you might also hang one below it if you go with the horizontal hang - to give him the shelves just as he thought the wooden mirror/fixture 'cool'.

8. If you can rid yourself of the sliding glass shower doors (and if you want to, since they're a bear to keep clean, anyway!) -- then do so, and hang a clear plastic shower curtain with a tropical or oceanic panoramic on it. If that is still too see-through (for either you or for him), then hand a clear plastic curtain with a pattern, like block-textured glass wall) behind the colorful curtain, in place of a plain inner curtain.

9. Drop dark green rug/s on the floor, preferably shag rugs, to mimic grass. If he doesn't mind the texture underneath bare feet, you might even try the fake grass doormats - the over-large 'estate-size' one/s.

10. If at all possible, find a corner where you can place a good fake palm tree or several-feet-tall plant. make it a tropical variety of tall plant.

You can also try hanging a basket of good fake tropical flowers and leaves from a ceiling hook. And/or try draping one strand of fake ivy around the edges of the mirror (if it won't occlude use of mirror), and hold in place (if necessary) with teeny hooks or nails or suction cups.

11. For a trash can, use a large planter pot instead, and you can use a small clear plastic liner for celaning/emptying ease. Let him choose either a metallic pot, or a ceramic pot, or a hand-painted pot... or paint one yourself in bright something-or-other. (beauganvilla, maybe?)

12. When accessorizing (toothbrush holder, cup, etc. -- stick with the tropical theme, preferably with the colors and/or floral and plant shapes/varieties found in the rest of the room (shower curtain, etc).

Pepper, That windo in the shower needs to be covered beyond the sill... like hang a rod OUTSIDE the frame.
The water seeps in and causes rot in the wall/window.
We had a huge problem with that in our old apt. What I ended up doing was using a spring tension Shower rod and hanging a liner the entire length of the wall.
It looked tacky, but it was the best we could do.

I like the vanity you chose as well. Nice clean lines, light wood tone. Keep it bright.
You can always tile halfway up the wall.
I like the look of glass tile, but I hear it's pricey.

First of all, I wrote a long reply to this, and am very annoyed to find it not here. In summary, I like the first the best, then the third. Not fond of the middle one at all, really. I like the clean lines of that cabinet, but I would recommend something a little darker at least, both to fit in with your house, your own design asthetic and resale. Tropical is easy, at least we have a theme. It is hard to design something for someone who has an opinion but you don't know it! <wink> LOL...so we are we in the process Pepp?
