mi nah guh try convince yuh fi stay there cause mi not a proponent of public school plus, not all public schools are created equally. likkelgen went from parochial to public and now back in parochial.

Mi nah guh into my experience but I will say that if you are anything like me, then when your child isn't happy/comfortable in school, then you will not be a functioning productive person at work.

I am just not happy at all. This is madness. Peasie.. I am going to take sometime when I get home to read through that site. Not to mention the three billion and one school closings they have on the calendar!

Can you transition your child in the middle of the school year?

Wendy- in the meantime can you pack lunch for wendy2 and put in her backpack ? Pack what she like and nuh badda wid di eediat lunch lady

Make up an invoice and drop it off at the Principal's office for 3 sweaters.

Maybe a meeting with the Principal to discuss your concerns ?

At likkelgen Last school they were given snacks all the way up to 5th grade and every class had tons of snacks for he children. If smaddy was hungry dem get food and even if smaddy leff dem lunch, them get something from the cafeteria to eat.

But like I said not all of the schools/staff will be this attentive.

Mi seh bare canfusion to backfoot. First week we packed her snack ..she took the lunch bag to the cafeteria and was eating the snacks not knowing she needed to get lunch ( where is the supervision?)

We informed the teacher AGAIN (since we did it already at orientation) that she has lunch paid for and should not beating snack at lunchtime . So dem tell har doan tek di lunch pan to the cafeteria ..Buy lunch instead. She buy di lunch ..noh like it.. shi goh widout food.

Wi goh to di lunch lady an tell har seh if shi want get more food tek it out har account an tap run mi pickney weh fram di counta Shi seh shi wi mek sure it noh happen again.

Nex two day smaddyelse inna di cafeteria noh use to har run har again. All shi had was di milk. Oh an di fus week shi cudden open di milk box an nobaddy neva help har soh shi goh widout. \o/

Now if wi decide fi pack har lunch watch di canfusion start all ova again when wi tell di teacha seh mek sure tek har lunch bag to di cafeteria cause lunch inna di bag, cause it look like dem people daff noh rahtid!

Good lord Wendy! I have never heard of so much confusion in a cafeteria. They surely don't seem to have any problem remembering who has already been in line, but they can't even make sure she gets her milk open?

The school bus thing is the biggest problem to me though. They are sending off so many red flags they could be signaling a ship at sea.

Kindergarten in my school district has door to door bus service. The 2 grade K teachers alternate who has bus duties and gets each child on the bus every day ... when class is finished they have them all line up (bus or non-bus) and go and put there things on or in their back packs. It was only when Adale moved up to grade 1 that he started leaving things all over they are much more careful with the Kinders than the older kids... lots of hand holding going on. It really helped though that there was a parent volunteer everyday (and we are talking about 1/2 day Kinders x 2 parents).

Wendy how big is the class cause in the real world that might affect how much one on one hand holding/supervision the teacher can give. and if numbers make it an issue it may be time to move her to a school that either has the resources or fewer children. I love the small class (14 in grade 2 now) ...

i suggest you shadow her for a day and help her manuever - show her where to put her sweaters - have lunch with her and talk about the menu items and observe the teachers

this helps in 2 ways - one you get to help her get her routine down and 2 - the teachers don't want you at school so they will get their ish together

also check back at the lost and found - things usually show up - you may also want to buy a school sweater with her name on it so she recognizes it as hers - i know you probably want her to have on a matching sweater - but she may not remember that the sweater even belongs to her

also monitor her homework and make sure she is getting it done on a timely basis

no there is not as much hand holding in public school

also - make sure you are putting your concerns in writing - make it appear as if you are creating a paper trail of the issues - plus no one will be able to say &quot;she never told us anything&quot;

meet with the principal
if no action - go to the country school board
if no action - go to the state

i've been fighting schools for 10 years now - you can win and get appropriate attention

aside: the last school meeting i had in atlanta - 17 people from atlanta public schools attended - including their attorney - they knew i had it in for them
