I’d like to talk about something that I think is pretty important when it comes to weight loss and changing our eating habits. However, I think this is different because I’m talking about the habits we don’t necessarily know that we have.

Let’s talk about breakfast for an example. If you think about the average day, do you know how many decisions you make when it comes to food? Think about it. Within at least an hour of waking up – whether or not you’re going to eat breakfast, whether or not you’re eating cereal, which cereal you’ll choose, how much you’ll eat, whether you’ll add sugar, how much milk to use, whether or not you’ll have a second bowl – you’ve made at least 7 decisions, and usually those are all bundled up in a 3 minute time frame. How often do you stop in between each of those and think about what each choice will do for your health?

Let’s consider lunch, next. The average work day includes what kind of decisions? Whether or not you’ll drink the office coffee, whether or not you’ll add sugar, whether you’ll add cream, whether you order lunch with your co-workers, where you’re going for lunch, whether you’re going fried or baked, meat or no meat, carbonated drink or juice (or water.) Again, another speedy set of decisions.

How much forethought do you give to the choices you make each day when it comes to food? Are you mindlessly ordering “what sounds good?” If so, do you consider what makes something “sound good?” Is it usually the fattening, creamy, fried, or junk-food filled option that “sounds good?” Is it something “exotic?” Is it something that’s going to set you back in your weight loss goals?

And before you say, “A little potato salad can’t set me back that much, can it?” Let me tell you – walking for an hour (approximately 263 calories) doesn’t burn 1 cup’s worth of potato salad. And just so that we’re working off the same understanding of what “1 cup” is, the average American coffee cup holds well over 1 cup of coffee. Just sayin’.

Blackstar I live with a man who feels that rice must be included in dinner and lunch every day. Alright maybe not every day but most days and his preference is a real &quot;Jamaican&quot; meal.

Breakfast today was ... half a egg &amp; cheese wrap and cup of mint tea.

will have a banana and a glass of milk for snack

lunch will be a salad... green leaf lettuce, tomato, radishes, cucumber and tomato

snack celery with peanut butter (I hate celery)

chicken vegetable soup for dinner

I will be drinking up my water too

amending lunch..2 turkey meatballs and whole wheat ziti..
will have mi yogurt as mi evening snack at work then wen mi come home tonight mi have mi grill chicken salad

Daag .. mi jus a si dis thread. Good stuff . Except mi head hurt when mi read di word &quot;DIET&quot; It soun like torture to me.

I have lost 13 lbs in 2010 but I am at a plateau ..simple mean I have to switch gears and rev up di engine again

The first 13 lbs lost was just simple changes - NO DIETING
- Whole wheat only
- Stop drinking calories i.e Water, diet and Chrystal light is all I drink now
- Switched to Ground turkey and everything turkey for that matter
- Treadmill and Dance DVD 3-4 days a week

For this year what I am trying to do is:
- Cook only lean meats. (Xed the beef and oxtail etc fi now )
- Eat only fruits late night. I am a night owl so mi have to work hard on this one
- Add a weekend day to my exercise routine (wish I could get my lazy butt outta di bed to do a morning walk, but no success dere yet )

Mi eat what mi want in small portions.

I would not have guessed I'd break down and get a Pizza Hut $10 pasta deals I ate the chicken Parmesan thing. That was crazy considering I would not have even normally done it.

So, that is how last night went. As much as I would prefer fish, I will cook this chicken tonight.

No breakfast - working on that too.

My list is coming.

I usually eat the same thing every morning.

- 1 boneless chicken breast with wing bone still attached; the French call it <span style="font-style: italic">supreme de poulet</span>
- Salade: lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, avocado, shrimp
- Fromage frais

<span style="font-weight: bold">In Between</span>
- 4 cups herbal tea

<span style="font-weight: bold">Happy Hour</span>
- 1/2 beer
- 1 slice ham
- Chunk of blue cheese
- Doritos &amp; potato chips - a handful of each; what was I thinking

- 1 tilapia filet
- Mixed veg
- 1 glass white wine
- Espresso coffee

Hmm

You are on the low carb thing though so the only issue would be the doritos. I'm not altogether convinced about wine though so ease up on it and drink plenty water.

I'm not at all full throttle for food or exercise but I'll be there soon I hope.

I have decided I don't want to make a list. I want to cook healthy dishes that taste great. I may not have a weight loss goal but for sure i want everything passing through to taste good.

BlackStar that's some heavy eating girl!

I would skip the happy hour food including the 1/2 beer since you're planning for wine and dinner later. If you do want happy hour, why not stay with something lighter. Your lunch is great and should keep you going for the rest of the day with a light weight dinner and a glass of wine to end the day.

How you do espresso at dinner time? The other day I had a cup of espresso and my body was so wired after that I could not relax

Today I planned my meal to be consistent with my workout plan for the day. I went for a meal plan that is protein based as I ran long over the past 2 days and wanted to replenish my protein intake.

A.M. yoga and pilates
P.M. ran 8 miles in the evening

<span style="font-weight: bold">Breakfast:</span>
Cup of coffee
Bowl of oat oatmeal
1 boiled egg
1 banana

Cup of coffee

<span style="font-weight: bold">Lunch:</span>
Apple
Yogurt
1 grilled cheese sandwich (home made)

Later afternoon:</span>
1/2 glass of carrot juice

8 miles..

B- oatmeal w/skim milk

L- 1/2 can of chicken breast (that me find in the pantry, max had some as well) on wheat thin w/ spinach, clementine

D- 2 boil eggs , 1/2 bagel

all in all a very carby day.

no exercise..cause me pain up and look like me ketching the flu from mr cb.

you know i felt like i was coming down with a touch of the cold since yesterday but it feel kinda cleared up...
