Here's part of that page but I think you should read the whole thing still.

PROPAGATION:

Tropical Hibiscus: Cuttings, 3 inches long, can be inserted into sand and peat moss in March and April in a propagating case in the hothouse. They are kept there until they form roots, they are then potted in 3-inch pots and, later, in larger pots. When they are 6 inches long, the main shoots and side branches are pinched to encourage bushy growth.

Hardy perennials: Seeds can be sown in drills 1 inch deep in light soil in May or June. The seedlings are transplanted, 6 inches apart, in a nursery bed and set in their final positions in the fall. They may also be divided.

You'll find some good info on planting about halfway down that page, under Culture and also under Harvesting.
An excerpt from that page says this (also recommends mid-May:
If intended solely for the production of calyces, the ideal planting time in southern Florida is mid-May. Blooming will occur in September and October and calyces will be ready to harvest in November and December. Harvesting causes latent buds to develop and extends the flowering life of the plant to late February. When the fruit is not gathered but left to mature, the plants will die in January.

Hi Gardeners - we're now at the start of the fall season - leaves beginning to turn brown and fall from the trees - start of a beautiful time here in Southern Ontario - we won't even think of the next season

Been a while since I posted here so thought I'd do an updateon de balcony garden - so here goes - the sweet pepper plant has about 10 peppers on it - will use some while they're green and leave some to turn red - tomato plant doing well - these were planted a little late so haven't ripen as yet - have about 4 cucumbers on one vine ready for picking - the chives, thyme, scallions doing well and making good use of them daily - picked enough mint and drying it for the winter - regular potato (Yukon gold) leaves starting to dry up so reaping time should be soon - the carrots didn't do well as he thinks the soil wasn't heavy enough - I think the only thing we might not reap is the pepper squash as it was planted too late - btw one facety critter came up on de ledge fe see wah was going awn [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img] - mi guess im didn't like wah im saw so nebba come bak

I never thought we'd get such a good harvest and I'm still surprised that it did so well the first year - who knows what extra he'll try to grow next year.

btw - we've enjoyed sitting in "our garden" and watching everything grow close up [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

Question:

As we wind down to the end of the season. Other than pulling up withered leaves, any suggestions on what to do at the end of the gardening season?

My garden this year was mediocre, and I want to close out right and make sure to have a good start for next year.

mawning Ms Pep, wah yu a talk bout end a season,Fl nuh have dat. how about some lettuce does better in the winter,spinach,gungo,yam,cane.

i would take out the summer vegetables an put in the winter ones.

me not too up on de Fl ting,wen mi use to be there mi always kip mi garden goin,but tru mi fool yu knoh it mite not be de rite way DWL.

Yesterday I harvested a watermelon. It grew from seeds that my kids threw in the front garden last year(our form of composting is to place the peels and such around flowers). Well anyway, it was taking up lots of space so I was going to rip it out when I saw the actual melon on it. Now there are two more melons! I just trained the vines where I wanted them to go. The melon was sweet, big and perfectly organic because I don't use fertilizer or pesticides!!!!

Hmm..I want a garden now! DWL.....I'm going to plant a little peppa seed and see how it does. The last time I tried to plant something all I got was a little stick...no leaves no flower just a stick. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] But hopefully this time will be better How do you care for a pepper plant?
