thought of a couple hints on my way to work. This wreath....florist pins may come in handy as you make this...particularly as you get towards the end and wrapping it all up.

Also, sometimes, you may need to squeeze the seedlings in your hand to make the root balls fit in the wreath form...one more note...now is a good time to start rooting pieces of ivy from your houseplants...they work nice in these.

Does any of this make sense to you folks?

grandma! I'm so glad you got it...now go make it! You can probably get away with less plants but you'll be able to tell depending on what you choose. I've seen one with mostly two different kinds of thyme (one varigated) that was lovely. Will look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

Jeanie, try using either Malathion and Daizanon. Both are chemical sprays but are pretty popular and seem to get some jobs done.

One other product which is organic is called NEEM, but it's useless for some type of insects such as Plum curculio and codling moth, but it works on the aphids. Plus, NEEM is pretty corrosive on the rubber sprayer.

Finding the *right* pesticide for your plants can be pretty difficult, you just have to read the fine label on the bottles and figure out which ones are better and it's best to find something effective and less toxic.

A friend is trying to grow Jamaican Apple trees at sea level in Haiti on west coast. He is having trouble and has asked me to find out what is the best culture for this tree. it is also known as Malay Apple. Any advice from those who know would be very helpful. He does not have internet access.

Malay Apple, called Otahiti Apples in Jamaica, same fruit.


Sorry, I don't know how to grow them in sandy/beach environment. I only know that the seeds put out sprouts very easily and quickly. Maybe he can try planting it indoors first. Is he planting by seed or propogating off a shoot?

hi Pep its not snap the top yu knoh,but, in between the strong stalks (if yu can call it dat) yu will have new growths, so these you would remove called thinning out the sprouts. just pinch them out as yu see dem growing

Hello fellow gardeners!

I finally got my garden in 2 days ago! But, sadly my dog was NOT impressed with all my hard work. Darn thing, dug up all my swiss chard, dug a big hole in the iris patch, and stomped on a pepper plant. I re-seeded yesterday, and remembered I had calaloo seeds from Duncan's Bay. So, I put them in too, I kept afew back for next year. (also put up a dog gate). Will weed front flower beds, and put in the last of the carnations and 2 Hosta plants today.

Back yard is still a construction zone, so I have planters I hang on the fence. Maybe later in the summer I will get that organized. Pictures to follow............

Hi Pepper, apparently you wait untill they start to bud, then youpick out the foilage from the second from top truss. I have never done this myself as I believe this to be unnessary as I am often blessed with bumper crops

So how everyone's gardening doing?

I'd planted some fruit trees (rasperberries and blackberries) and deciduous trees earlier in the year, some are growing nicely, and others looking kinda puny. I've lost track which trees are which but all the berries are looking good.

Yesterday evening, we had a big thunderstorm, wind blowing high and nigh, some of my gladiolas got squashed to the ground, one of the hibiscus plants got torn asunder. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
