I am just explaining my understanding of what the difference is between being a vegetarian and a vegan.

I like meat and fish so I dont need to argue the point.

1. From what I have read, ras tafari was born as it where from the oppression of white men against blacks. with that being said, how is it that at this point in the philosphy's history that ras tafari is open to just anyone - meaning all race, colors or creeds?

<span style="font-weight: bold">ras tafari was born when the lost sheep found the shepherd...and being followers of ras tafari i and i could not be racists and forbid anyone from worshipping the most high creator- then we would be no better than the oppressors who practice/d oppression and racism...ras tafari is black/african, but gave birth to all other colors, so it is not remarkable that other colors would honor their origin, their father if they choose to...they came from africans so they are paying homage to the root...
people fall into the trap of thinking rasta is ALL about color, but it is not...african redemption is a must; but those who genuinely respect and adhere to the principles are welcome regardless of color...i don't think there is any danger that the movement will suddenly be over-run by non-blacks taking it over...i don't see that happening</span>

2. How do you reconcile the above with your belief system?

3. Again - another form of reconciliation that I just do not fully comprehend - rejection of Christainity as a religion but still keep the believe in the Bible and the basic message of a Saviour?

<span style="font-weight: bold">one thing christians must overstand is that christianity is not the only belief system in the world- other cultures also have other belief systems...it is not a rejection of christianity as a religion- it is the rejection of a certain type of christianity, or some would see it as an evolution of christianity...because for some, ras tafari is seen as the christ, which simply means the annointed...
when you say still keep the bible, you have to overstand that the bible is not the exclusive domain of christians- many of the old testament books were written by jews &amp; others before the birth of jes-us and before there was any belief system known as 'christianity'...
but i think the biggest split between the two is in the book of revelations- traditional christians mostly vision a judgement that is jesus coming back in spirit form to judge and separate the good from the bad after they die- with the good getting rewarded with a fantasy-type heavenly paradise while the wicked burn in hell with satan...
whereas the ras see the judgement in everyday life in this time on this earth in this life...</span>

this is interesting Jah Yout, check this story:

<span style="font-style: italic">Sengchou, a monk of Shaolin Temple, was a physically feeble monk who was constantly abused by his fellow monks, beating him up all the time. In desperation, Sengchou turned to the monastery's patron deity for help. He entered the hall where the god Vajrapâni (Chinese: Jingang shen) is being worshipped, prostrates himself on the ground in front of his statue, and begs the deity to make him strong. After he clings to Vajrapâni's feet for six days and nights, the god responds to Sengchou's entreaties. Revealing his divine form to the devotee, and holding in his hands a bowl of meat, he bawls at him:

In a short while he finished his meal, whereupon the god said to him: <span style="font-weight: bold">&quot;Now, you are already extremely strong. However, you should fully uphold the [Buddhist] teachings, Beware!&quot;</span>

Since it was already daylight, Sengchou returned to his room. His fellow novices all interrogated him: &quot;Scumbag! Where have you been just now?!&quot; Chou did not answer. In a short while they all went to the hall for their common meal. After eating, they again entertained themselves with fighting. The Dhyana Master said: &quot;I have strength now. I suspect not the same kind as yours.&quot; Then he flexed his arms, revealing his powerful sinews and bones. He looked practically like a god.

Before they recovered their senses, the Dhyana Master said, &quot;I will give you a demonstration.&quot; Thereupon he entered the hall and started walking horizontally on the walls. He advanced first from the east, then from west, a total of several hundred feet. Then he leaped upwards, his head hitting the ceiling-beams several times. Finally he lifted several thousand pounds. His fighting was swift and powerful.

Those who had belittled him now prostrated themselves on the ground, their sweat trickling. No one dared face up to him.</span>

It seems like bubbling along under the surface, perhaps tied into the ouroborus life devouring life archetype, is the notion that eating meat is equated with Death and the (ability) dealing of it.

the debate rages on...i'm pretty sure meat eating will always be around...i guess humans are both herbivore and carnivore;

comes down to personal choice i guess...

okay, that is fair enough.

As for the last question, so the main point is that you do believe in the Bible both Old and New Testament as the word of God....that a saviour or annointed one is or has been sent to free mankind from his sins? That is more what I meant when I referred to Christianity as a religion. Whether Christians are the lastest group to claim the bible story is outside of what I was trying to say. I just wanted to clarify that the teachings of the Bible itself is something that you believe in. That is what is sometimes not clear when I read about ras tafarism.

interesting indeed!! I think it would have to be <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> some sect <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> because the different houses of rasta (at some level) are at different stages in the evolution of their belief. And within those houses(sects) members are at different stages of their evolution. What I admire about Rastafari in general, is the quest(thirst) for knowledge. While exploring my own belief system ,and studying others, it becomes clear that the general message is learning to <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> LOVE <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> .
I really enjoyed reading the questions and responses to this feature.
I always knew we could have conversations/sharing of ideas without the negativity and bashing. Respect to all involved!

one must read the bible with a clean heart and leave cultural biases behind in order for one to overstand the concept of one love...

unless you are prepared to meet i and i as equals you will not digest the gist of it...

should you choose to lower the big 'C' on your Christianity and elevate the small 'r' and 't' on my ras tafari and remove the 'ity' from 'Christianity' and add the 'ism' which you chose for depicting Rastafari...
would you see i and i differently if it were <span style="font-weight: bold">christianism</span> and <span style="font-weight: bold">Rastafarity</span>? does the use of the capital letter on one and small letters and the suffix 'ism' on the other represent levels of importance and significance? of respect?

love and respect can be granted to each other in life regardless of our interpretation of a collection of books written thousands of years ago known as 'the bible' unless we are willing to embrace its concept of true love...it was not written by a mysterious being called 'god', but by men who were inspired by god...when you ask if the bible itself is something i believe in- the answer is yes- will i go out and stone someone accused of adultery as it says in some parts of the bible? no...

i enjoyed the chance to clear up any misconceptions any one may have had on the topic...
i don't claim to be the final authority scholar but i've done my share of lessons...there are some books which are excellent and some not so good...
there is one by a trini bredrin that is probably the best i ever read; can't recall the name right now...the thing is i read many different sources to come to my own conclusions;
but yes- at the end of the day god is love...
