The question was, why don't people of African descent speak out....? I gave my "honest" opinion - and your response is the answer you seek - different opinions, ideas, way of life, religions, skin colour, clans are just some of the reason Africa is in the plight it is currently in.

They react to anyone who differs from them in thoughts and ideas the same way you are responding. My thoughts are not your thoughts and my ideas are not your ideas. The form of attack may be different, but attack nonetheless.

I have lived amoung these people - in their villages, eat their food listened to their stories. Lets talk about my missions..

Nutritionist - 28 Refugee camps in several African Nations (Yes, African Nations - after awhile it did not care about the name of the country - they were one people - Afrcans)

Project Manager - Aids/HIV and other infectious diseases - S. Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Zimbabwe. the
Congo and Egypt.

Woman and Children Health and Population - Africa

Woman In Development - Africa and the Caribbean

Also worked with former president Carter and Habitat for Humanity building houses in Africa.

Yes ... unlike most consultants who are just their for the danger pay and the per diem - I was there because I am passionate about what I do and want to make a change.

So if you want to know the answer to the what is going on in Africa...it is the inability of people to accept the difference of others, to overcome the fear of change.

I have been in the struggle a long time, frustrated and tired - I feel like a fan screaming at a superbowl match - the deafening silence.

Yes, it is a most complex situation. I think the real answer to this question is that many people of African descent don't concider themselves to be as such. This is a direct result of colonialiam.

There is simply an unease when people of african descent criticize societies in african nations. Many do not want to demonstrate a disunity with respect Africa and Africans. However, the societies of other nations where the preponderance of individuals are not of african descent is certainly fair game for criticism - perhaps undeservedly so in many instances.

that right there is a good point and pertains not only to african people but to every person feeling the effects of globalization.

but you don't think we (anybody not involved in the conflict) have a moral obligation to intervene in a case deemed genocide? this is not your garden variety development project we are talkin about.

BP, you are ABSOLUTELY right! [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70409-waytogo.gif[/img] There have been nuff Black presidents (or leaders) of nations that were tyrants and ruthless, raping their own people for self-advancement (Mobotu Sese Seko of Zaire and Papa Doc Duvalier are just two that come to mind.)

Black ppl are afraid to air their dirty laundry and that makes it difficult for them to be realistic about what is really going on (given they actually KNOW...the media doesn't take much interest in things of an African nature unless it's negative...)

It's difficult to talk to "the dominate culture" about such things because you know that they are thinking (why can't blk ppl get their act together? why do they fight each other?)...for instance, the topic of black on black crime.

You must look deep and determine some of the factors that cause this violence and this greedy attitude, then you can begin to attack from there.

We need not be afraid to call people out if they aren't working for the good of the PEOPLE. Tough but necessary!
