Marcia is a lady I've long admired for her wisdom and her strength. I'll miss her physical presence here trememdously, but for all of her hard work on the site, a part of her is here still, and always will be....

The blue Delphinum growing in my garden I dedicate to the memory of Marcia for it is beautiful and has a striking presence as did she.

My condolences to Marcia's family and friends, and all of Jamaicans.com family members.

RIP Marcia, you will be sadly missed......

Marcia, I saw your image years ago, the same one at the top of this Thread. You showed full up, full frontal view of your face, a portrait.
Immediately I was attracted to you.
It took me months after to visit Jamaicans.com and register as a visitor/member. I simply did not know at the time what a unique place the bulletin board was.
Reading your posts, you asserted yourself as an Administrator par excellence. You commanded respect.
I always felt that quality, a deep quality, a deep old time Jamaican quality that I knew you got from a quality upbringing.
Your actions and words spoke well of you. There is almost nothing that can be said that You were negatively this or that.
Of us all here on the Board, you are closest to perfection.
Many thanks to all those around you, your Family, Xavier, Administrators, Moderators, Members and Visitors for sharing You with me/ us. The few minutes of posting we shared and the many hours of reading your lines over the years will be forever embedded in my mind.
If there is one thing I greatly admire about you is the strength of discipline and foresight. You, a pioneer Boardite were instrumental with Xavier et al to preserve dignity and integrity amongst such a wide and broad cross section of people here.
We owe it to you to preserve the life of Jamaicans.com as a place in, out and of Jamaica.
With all the negatives associated with Jamaicans because of bad press and because of the behaviour of a few, You Marcia are an example of a true Honourable citizen of this Earth, a Jamaican.
Where you have now taken up residence is the better for your presence.
Where you have left us, you have left us as a better people and we will strive to hold and build that position you and many like you have made for us.
You have passed with High Honours.
You will live in our memories forever more.

The day the laughter stopped and the tears began

July 14, 2003 - the day the laughter stopped in our community. It is the day the tears began for us all. Our online community came to a grinding halt as we all logged in for our morning laughs and bantering only to be greeted by the news that Marcia/ackeegirl was no longer with us. The tears flowed for some. Some were in shock. Others in disbelief. Some logged off never to come back again, refusing to believe the madness they were reading. Some simply stared at the screen – reading over and over again – trying to make sense of what they just read. Was this a dream? It had to be! Some drowned themselves in their work while others just couldn’t do any work. Some logged on and remained for the whole day online, waiting but not sure what they were waiting for… “A strange sadness…An empty void…numbness…sinking feeling…sad, very sad” The words came from all the posters, from all over the world – as the reality of Marcia leaving us set in. And as the tears flow, as people sit in disbelief, as some wait with a million words to say but none to utter, it is apparent that this isn’t just a “place to be” online. We here at Jamaicans.com are not just acquaintances. We are, in some way or another, family. We interact with each other daily and whether we realize it or not, or souls begin to be bound together with chords that cannot be seen – nor can they be broken. How else can we explain the tears for someone who some have never met physically? How else can we explain the overwhelming sadness that we feel? In death, as in life, Marcia brought us together.

The internet is a meeting ground for many. It is a place where people come together young and old, male and female, black, white, oriental – the list goes on - the differences go on – the varieties go on. It is a black screen. You sit and “talk” to individuals from all over the world and not know who they are, nor what they look like.

In the midst of this dynamic, chaotic yet simply interesting and enveloping world, I found a home. It’s the place where I go to be alone and yet surrounded. It’s the place where I go and feel at peace but yet at war….it’s the place where I go and am loved and yet hated…it’s the place where I go to sit in the midst of friends and yet observe my
enemies.

I love it here - in my home. The urge to leave my home and the urge to always come back remains the same. They cancel each other out. And so I stay. I sit and I am alone and I am at war and I am hated and I observe my enemies and I stay. Yes, I stay. I stay because I am surrounded and I am at peace and I am loved and I am in the midst of friends and so I stay.

My home is somewhat of a caveat…a warning label…this is what real life is about – my home is as it were, a blueprint of the real world. Filled with everything - from the sublime, to the utterly ridiculous. And as it is in the real world, I take things I see here with a grain of salt – never believe everything you read nor everything you hear.

So I sit and observe my home - it brings me joy and it brings me sorrow. It causes me to think and it causes me to doubt…

But Jamaicans.com will always be my home, and even if I am never here, I will always be here.

I am so saddened by Marcia's passing. I don't quite know how to express what I am feeling right now. Yesterday when I read the front page of Jamaicans.com I started to cry. I left work and all day could not get myself together. Marcia and I talked via email as well as on the board. She and I first interacted when she asked me to moderate the DearK forum many years ago.. She encouraged me to keep my wits back then as that is a difficult forum to moderate. She kept me sane during that time. We interacted throughout the years and one thing we shared at that time was our love for the month of July! We both were born in July and battled tooth and nail when the "month wars" went on in the forums to keep July in the forefront. She always made me DWL.

I posted a thread one day regarding my sister Natalie. She was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy at the age of 33. As her heart condition worsened I feared the worse and it was Marcia that contacted me offline and consoled me. She provided crucial information for my sister to bring to her heart doctors and the information she provided has literally prolonged my sisters life.

Even though my sister never knew Marcia and does not post on Jamaicans.com she was extremely touched at how a stranger could affect her life in such a profound way. When Natalie wanted to return the gift with a necklace she made..a cross with a mustard seed in it. She wanted Marcia to know that she only needs the faith of a mustard seed to keep on holdin on as they battled their illness miles and miles apart. I knew what Marcia was made of when she proudly proclaimed that Natalie should give it to "someone who needs it". Marcia was Natalies strength.

I did not tell my sister of Marcias passing as she is undergoing another heart surgery tomorrow, but when she recovers I know that she will know that an angel named Marcia is now watching over her.

Please know that Marcia has touched many many lives around the world and she will be truly truly missed.

My love and condolences go out to the entire Davidson family, you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Something within called me "home" this morning. I was shocked and deeply saddened to read of Marcia's passing.

As a former moderator of this Board, I had opportunity to communicate with Marcia offline and we struck up a friendship which ultimately led to our meeting in the year 2000 when we attended an event organized by Reggae Plus. I still remember her picking me up at the GO Station and greeting me as if I were a long-lost relative. We continued to communicate after I resigned from the Board with our last e-mail exchange on June 27th, 2003.

Marcia was a strong, independent, vivacious and beautiful woman. She hurt for the hurting, fought for the cause of the innocent and embraced people from all walks of life. I called her my diva, my fabulous one.

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to her immediate family, friends and all those who were touched by her life. We have indeed sustained a very deep loss.

I miss you terribly, Marcia.

As I said before, I always was a silent, as well as, vocal admirer of Lady "M". Each person is different in his or her own way, but Marcia had a kind of quiet strength that suited her, that I admired. I was joking around with "M" one day in one of her BB posts, then she got around to poking fun at herself, "something to the effect that she could not run even half a block without huffing and puffing". At that point I tried to encourage her, "to start out slowly and build up a little at a time and before you know it you will be running sprints around me". She said no, she couldn't, and that there were things that I did not know about her, and when she sees me again on one of my trips down she will explain to me a few things about herself". I was a little perplexed at the time, because she did not give me any insight as to what was evidently challenging her. Marcia was a private person and I did not press it any further, but looked forwarded to talking with in face-to-face. We joked around many times, but there was always a mutual respect between us. I have admired her persona from day one, because in interacting with her, even though she was firm at times with members, I found her to be also fair. We did not get the chance to sit and chat face-to-face since our initial face-to-face meeting, so I was not fully aware of the challenges she was going through, because she always put fourth a cheery and positive aura whenever we spoke on or off-line. I was looking forward to sit with her again but as faith would have it, that was not to be. Now in retrospect, the statement that she made to me about her running makes a lot of sense now and I am feeling a little insensitive, even though I had no clue what she was enduring on a daily basis.

I have found a new level of respect for the person I fondly called Lady "M". I wish I had known earlier, but I guess that was the kind of private person that Marcia was, and did not want you to fuss over her, even with good intentions. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
