Their mindset. This is somewhat of a generalization but do bear with me. It seems to me that because women tend to be far more emotional, they have a more difficult time letting go of the old - including thoughts and ideas - and embracing something new. They seem to claim "ownership" of emotions: pain, grief, happiness, and so on, and it can take a very long time to get them to understand it is OK to let go of the unpleasant things. I think of it as having the "victim's mentality" and it is working through this thinking, and the reluctance to let go of past hurts, that I find most challenging. Excellent question.

From what I have been told, no.

Yes, I do. Have had them for about 10 years and in the one I have now, only 3 names are programmed in there and less that a handful have the number. Very casual user.

What size shoe do you wear?

11 or 12 seems to work just fine. Not sure why not just 11 or 12. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

First of all CEW, I definitely admire your patience and stamina for undergoing this interrogation!

But what you mentioned above about some of your writing being directed at prisoners brought something to mind.

First of all, what is your opinion in general of jailhouse conversions to Christianity? Are there any particular signs you would look for to tell if the person is sincere vs. merely looking to accumulate "brownie points" toward an early release date?

At this point, I am about to write him off as a con artist, but I still feel SOME (well, not a lot at this point) pity for him, as I know his life has not been as easy one. Do you have any advice for me in how to deal with him with regard to drawing the line between being helpful and supportive vs. being conned and taken advantage of?

Have you ever felt you have been conned or taken advantage of due to being a compassionate person (whether naturally compassionate or compassionate as a result of your faith)? If so, how did you handle it?

Ideally, a godly example of all that is good, but seeing all mothers are not into religion, the next best thing is a good example of unconditional love, honesty, respect for self and others, hardwork, relative independence, and determination.

I think everyone would say something differently, but among the things mentioned might be that I have no self-imposed limits, my faith in God is unwavering, and I do think well outside of the box.

That would be true and for that reason, I am extremely careful of the people I allow into my personal space.

My relative independence in that I am not easily influenced. I can do something even if I am the only one convinced it is right. I am not sure how I came by that other than through a keen awareness that at the end of the day, I am ultimately responsibly for the things I do. With that responsibility, it makes sense that I am in relative control of my actions.

5. a).How would you advise a young man / woman contemplating marriage?[

That marriage is not so much about finding the right person, as it is being the right person. At the end of the day, the success of it is all about treating another person the way we as individuals would want to be treated.

b). What books do you suggest I read in preparation for marriage?

"The Act of Marriage" by Tim and Bev LaHaye
"Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus" by John Gray
"Learning to Love The Love We Promise" by Lewis Smedes.

6. I just finished reading a book about a woman who was abused as a child. She is hurting and in need of love. What direction would you point her to?

There is no easy answer for this one. She would need the help of a professional, and if she is a Christian, preferably a Christian Psychologist.

7. As the man of the house, how do you feel about helping in the house?

Doesn't bother me one bit. I do not like a dirty environment and truth be known, I quite like housework.

8. After spending time in your company, what is the one thing you'd like your guests to remember about you?

Two things actually: 1)The way I approach life. Disappointments are a part of it, we get over them and move on. To dwell on negative things is to deny ourselves the freedom and opportunity to enjoy the present and the wonderful thing it promises, as well as choke our hopes and aspirations for the future. 2) My conviction that with God all things are possible, providing we understand that the things that comes out of our mouths have a significant impact on our outcomes.

9. What do you think your purpose on this Ja.com is ?

Probably to be a voice of reason, and to provide some kind of encouragment/inspiration to others. This is not only on the boards, but behind the scenes helping people I would not even know what some of their online names are. After yesterday's fast and hearing/reading some of the reports, I am sure God has me here for a purpose. I am just not sure I understand it all.

10. How comfortable are you with public speaking?

Very comfortable.

We cannot always know what people's motives are, but we cannot rule out the fact that there can be genuine conversions in prisons. I would not second guess someone in that situation, but simply support and encourage them in their walk. If they are insincere, that is for them and God to deal with, but I would not want to be found lacking simply because I second guessed the legitimacy of someone's conversion.

I think you need to examine your motives for helping him. If it is to encourage him as a believer, then I would suggest that you stop second guessing him and simply offer that support. There are times when the seed we plant may take a while to grow, but just because we are not seeing "the evidence" does not mean nothing is happening.

I really do not think about it, though if I am aware someone is being dishonest, I will put a stop to it. Personally, I just do my part and leave the rest between the person, their conscience, and their God. I do not want to look back and say "If only I had helped".

I still have family members who are not Christians, and I am in constant prayer for them. I also take the time to minister to them via emails (the ones who are connected), and they also receive issues of one of the publications I write for. I am hoping however that my life will be enough of a walking testimony of God's grace that it will influence them to take the step of surrendering themselves to the Lord.
